The Theatre of Digital Arts, or ToDA, is the first fully immersive digital art space in all of UAE, where visitors can get a chance to experience art in a unique way, as opposed to a traditional gallery visit. The theatre has set a benchmark in revolutionizing the way that masterpieces of art by some of the world’s most notable artists are viewed. The digital art shows here combine art, stunning music, and visual effects with best-in-class technologies.

For lovers of art and beauty, the Theatre of Digital Arts, located at Madinat Jumeirah, is one of the best places to visit and marvel at the works of celebrated and notable artists. Also commonly known as ToDA, this theatre combines art with high-end technology and the processes of modern storytelling. 

Offering visitors a glimpse into the works of nine amazing artists, including Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Paul Cezanne as well as Wassily Kandinsky, among others, ToDA boasts of several multimedia exhibitions, contemporary installations as well as VR-based displays for a more memorable experience.  

The theatre opened its doors to visitors in October 2020 and uses advanced technologies, immersive storytelling techniques, and audio-visual effects to enhance the viewing of classic artworks and contemporary pieces of art. Spread across an area of 1,800 square meters, the theatre also has art exhibits in virtual reality, and is home to several different sections that visitors can explore. Some of these include the traditional and classical art exhibition sections, a contemporary digital art zone, exhibits for children as well as several other sections of interest.

The best time to visit the Theatre of Digital Arts in Dubai is around the time it opens to visitors, which is at 12:00 p.m. It is during this time that there is a relatively lesser crowd here, which makes it great to explore the theatre at your own comfort, without having to worry about a lot of people.

Best Time To Visit

The Theatre of Digital Arts is located in Souk Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai and is accessible by metro as well as taxis or Uber.

You can either avail of a taxi or Uber directly to Souk Madinat Jumeirah and then walk to the Theatre. Alternatively, you can also take the Dubai Metro and get off at the Mall of the Emirates Station, which is the 32nd station on the Red Line of the Dubai Metro Network. 

Upon reaching the Mall of the Emirates Station, you can avail yourself of a bus or taxi ride to Souk Madinat Jumeirah, which is located around 2.8 kilometers away from here.

Live Music Nights to Attend

1. Art and Music Night:

On this live music night, you can experience a stunning blend of classical music with beautiful digital art. While enjoying the section of “From Monet to Kandinsky, Revolutionary Art,” you can enjoy the live music that accompanies it. The music is played by Soren Lyng Hansen, who is a talented Danish cellist, double bassist and pianist. 

2. Jazz Music Night:

Taking art and music to the next level at the Theatre of Digital Arts is the Jazz Music Night, wherein you can enjoy amazing live performances by The Suspenders Jazz Trio while enjoying the immersive visuals of the digital art. 

3. Listen to your Art Night:

On this live music night, you can enjoy a live jazz show whilst participating in a painting class for 3 hours, all the while being surrounded by an immersive digital art show as well. In addition to complimentary art supplies, you will also be served 2 glasses of wine and canapes during the event. 

4. Chopin Night:

This live music night is organized in partnership with Steinway & Sons and the House of Pianos in UAE and is a unique event where you can enjoy the magnificent musical story of the famous pianist Frederic Chopin. Also an educational concert, the music here will be played by famous Polish pianist Andrej Wiercinski, who will play the original compositions of Chopin, thereby offering you a magical experience.

Toda For Kids: 

At the Theatre of Digital Arts, there is something for everybody, even kids. Children visiting ToDA can enjoy an exclusive immersive art experience at the Interactive Room here. The room is designed to provide children of all ages with a range of different activities that can help them to immerse themselves and experience the realms of art and fantasy. 

Currently, this interactive room is organizing different workshops about the architecture of several landmarks of Dubai, along with their creators and the stories behind these projects. In addition to introducing the concept of architecture to children, these workshops will also allow them to understand the concept of design-and-built, thereby helping to improve their observation and analytical skills and their attention to detail.

History of Theatre of Digital Arts

The Theatre of Digital Arts first opened its doors in Moscow and St. Petersburg in Russia, in the year 2014. Back then, it was home to various multimedia art exhibitions of works belonging to famed artists, including French Impressionists like Renoir, Monet, and Van Gogh. The theatre then expanded its concepts with additional exhibitions in Berlin, between 2016 to 2018, with exhibitions about “Italian Renaissance: Leonardo, Michelangelo, Rafael” and “From Monet to Kandinsky, Revolutionary Art” in Thailand, Saudi and Germany.

In 2020, ToDA produced another show titled “Something Nouveau, Klimt, Mucha Beardsley,” which was followed by two other projects in Bangkok and Switzerland. It was in October 2020 when Dubai welcomed ToDA with open arms, thereby presenting some of the most innovative permanent digital art exhibitions for visitors to enjoy.

  • It is best to visit the Theatre of Digital Arts with ample time in your hands since there is a lot to see and experience here
  • It is advisable to book your tickets to the theatre in advance to avoid long hours of waiting in the entry queue
  • Ensure that you wear comfortable clothes and flat shoes since the theatre has several sections and areas that have stairs, are dimly lit or even pitch-black
