What Makes Kashmir Holiday Package Prices Go Up or Down

A Kashmir trip cost mainly depends on four factors:

1. Travel Season: Prices are highest during the summer season (April–June) and winter snowfall season (December–February), when hotel and flight rates increase due to high demand.

2. Local Transportation: Some attractions, such as Betaab Valley and Thajiwas Glacier, require local taxis that are often not included in standard packages, adding to the overall cost.

3. Gondola Tickets: Gulmarg Gondola tickets, especially for Phase 2, are in high demand and can increase trip costs if booked separately.

4. Houseboat Stays: The type and location of your houseboat matter. Premium houseboats, particularly on Nigeen Lake, cost more than standard options on Dal Lake.

How to Reach Kashmir

Kashmir is one of India's most visited domestic destinations. One of the main reasons for this popularity is its good connectivity through flights, trains, and roads, making it accessible from major cities across India.

By Air

Flying is the fastest and most convenient way to reach Kashmir, making it the preferred choice for most travellers. Srinagar Airport is well-connected to major Indian cities, with direct flights available from Delhi, Mumbai, and Chandigarh. Travellers from cities such as Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad mostly connect through Delhi. Direct flights from Delhi are often the most economical option, while connecting flights via Delhi can sometimes cost INR 1,500 to INR 3,000 less than premium non-stop alternatives on certain routes. Based on airfare trends, flights departing on Thursday evenings and Friday mornings generally experience a 20–35% price increase due to higher demand.

By Train

Travelling by train is a budget-friendly option, particularly for those who enjoy scenic journeys. While Srinagar does not currently have a direct railway connection, Jammu Tawi Railway Station serves as the nearest major railhead and is well-connected to cities across India. Popular services include the New Delhi–Jammu Tawi Rajdhani Express and the Jhelum Express. From Jammu, travellers continue their journey to Srinagar by road, with the drive taking around 5–6 hours depending on traffic and road conditions.

By Road

A road trip to Kashmir offers a memorable experience for travellers who enjoy mountain landscapes and scenic drives. The journey primarily follows National Highway 44 (NH-44), passing notable landmarks such as the Jawahar Tunnel and Chenani-Nashri Tunnel. Regular transportation options include private taxis as well as JKSRTC government buses operating between Jammu and Srinagar. Travellers driving from Delhi cover approximately 800 kilometres, with the journey usually taking 18–20 hours depending on traffic, weather conditions, and road status.

Best Time to Visit Kashmir: Season-by-Season Guide

Kashmir experiences four distinct seasons, and each transforms the landscape in a completely different way. From snow-covered mountains in winter to blooming tulip gardens in spring and golden Chinar trees in autumn, the best time to visit Kashmir depends on the experience you're looking for.

Winter (December to February)

Winter is the best time to visit Kashmir if you want to experience snowfall. The valley looks completely different during these months, with snow-covered mountains, frozen lakes, and chilly weather. Gulmarg becomes a favourite spot for skiing, snowboarding, and other snow activities, while Srinagar offers beautiful winter views with occasional snowfall and misty mornings. Temperatures usually range from -4°C to 10°C. Since heavy snowfall can sometimes affect road travel, it is helpful to keep some flexibility in your plans.

Spring (March to May)

Spring brings Kashmir back to life after winter. Gardens and valleys fill with colourful flowers, almond blossoms begin to bloom, and the famous Tulip Garden in Srinagar becomes one of the region's biggest attractions. Snow can still be seen on the surrounding mountains, creating a beautiful contrast with the fresh greenery below. With temperatures ranging between 8°C and 20°C, the weather is comfortable for sightseeing, photography, and outdoor activities. This is one of the most popular seasons for visitors.

Summer (June to August)

Summer is considered one of the best times to visit Kashmir. The weather remains pleasant, the skies are usually clear, and all major tourist destinations are easily accessible. Temperatures generally range from 15°C to 30°C, making it comfortable for sightseeing and outdoor experiences. Whether it is a Shikara ride on Dal Lake, a visit to the meadows of Gulmarg, or exploring the valleys of Pahalgam and Sonmarg, summer offers ideal conditions for a relaxed holiday. It is also the most popular season for family vacations.

Autumn (September to November)

Autumn gives Kashmir a completely different charm. The famous Chinar trees turn into shades of yellow, orange, and red, creating some of the most beautiful landscapes in the valley. The weather remains pleasant, with temperatures usually ranging from 7°C to 22°C, making it ideal for sightseeing and photography. Since there are fewer tourists compared to the summer season, travellers can enjoy a quieter and more peaceful experience while admiring the region's colourful scenery.

Best Dishes to Try in Kashmir

Kashmir is known for its rich and flavourful cuisine. While many traditional dishes are meat-based, vegetarian travellers can also enjoy plenty of delicious local specialities. Most hotels and restaurants can arrange vegetarian meals if informed in advance.

Wazwan: Kashmir's Traditional Feast

Wazwan is a famous multi-course Kashmiri meal prepared by expert chefs known as wazas. It is served with rice and includes several traditional dishes such as Rogan Josh, Yakhni, Gushtaba, and Tabak Maaz. Wazwan is known for its rich flavours and generous portions.

Other Popular Vegetarian Dishes

  • Haak Saag – A simple and healthy Kashmiri leafy green dish.
  • Nadru Yakhni – Lotus stem cooked in a creamy yogurt-based gravy.
  • Dum Aloo – Potatoes cooked in a flavorful Kashmiri spice blend.
  • Rajma Chawal – Kidney beans served with rice, a local favourite.

Must-Try Kashmiri Specialties

  • Gushtaba – Soft mutton meatballs slow-cooked in a rich yogurt gravy.
  • Tabak Maaz – Crispy fried lamb ribs, tender on the inside and crunchy outside.
  • Lyodur Tschaman (Waza Paneer) – Cottage cheese cooked in a mild yogurt and turmeric-based sauce.
  • Masala Tsot – A popular street-food wrap made with Lavasa bread, spiced white peas, and tangy radish-yoghurt chutney.

Where to Try These Dishes in Kashmir

Many of these traditional Kashmiri dishes can be enjoyed at popular restaurants in Srinagar, such as Ahdoos, Mughal Darbar, and Shamyana Restaurant, all known for serving authentic local cuisine. Visitors can also find regional specialties at local eateries around Dal Lake, Lal Chowk, and Residency Road. For a more immersive experience, several heritage hotels and resorts in Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam offer traditional Kashmiri meals, including Wazwan. Street-food favourites like Masala Tsot are best sampled from local bakeries and food stalls in Srinagar's bustling markets.

Kashmir Travel Essentials & Safety Advisory for Indian Travellers

Kashmir is one of those destinations where a well-planned trip makes all the difference. For most travellers visiting popular places like Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam in 2026, the experience is safe, comfortable, and well-managed.

According to a January 2026 WION report, Kashmir saw a significant increase in winter tourist arrivals, especially in Srinagar and Gulmarg. To manage the growing number of visitors, authorities have strengthened security arrangements and improved crowd management during peak travel periods.

Plan Your Gulmarg Gondola Ride Early: The Gulmarg Gondola is one of the most popular experiences in Kashmir, but it requires some planning. During peak winter months, especially December and January, queues at the gondola counters start getting longer by around 10 AM. Arriving early can help you avoid long waits and save 1–2 hours.

Houseboat Stays Offer a Unique Experience: Whether or not to stay in a houseboat depends on your travel style, but many visitors consider it one of the highlights of their Kashmir trip. Staying on a houseboat on Dal Lake offers a unique experience that feels very different from a regular hotel stay. Luxury houseboats are also available for travellers looking for added comfort and premium facilities.

Hotels Provide Comfort and Convenience: Hotels in Srinagar are ideal for travellers who prefer modern comforts and easy access to the city. They generally offer better heating facilities during winter and are conveniently located near major attractions, shopping areas, and restaurants.

How Thrillophilia Helps You Save on Kashmir Trip Costs?

By booking in advance and working closely with hotels, houseboats, and local operators across Kashmir, we are able to offer better rates and availability to our travellers. We also offer Kashmir tour packages with flights, which are marginally more economical than booking them separately due to bulk deals. This helps you get more value from your trip while avoiding peak-season price increases.

Many travellers have appreciated this experience. In a 5-star review on 04 May 2026, Vinod Vinod, who booked the Highlights of Kashmir | FREE Shikara Ride on Dal Lake package, shared that his group of four families had a wonderful holiday and praised the smooth travel arrangements, comfortable stays, and helpful support provided by the Thrillophilia team throughout the trip.

The Kashmir Great Lakes trek is just amazingly beautiful, gorgeous beyond words. everyday it used to get better and beautiful. the pristine lakes, the endless meadows, the scenery, the view of twin lakes of gangabal and nandkul from 14000 ft zaj pass is all lifelong experience. this is the kashmir that one cant see on normal tourist itinerary and the hardwork is totally worth it . Our local operator has organized it pretty well, the trek lead and 2 guides were friendly, supportive and professional in their conduct. the food was just too good and never expected to have such yummy food on such remote high altitude trek. we were group of 13 n bonded really well. our batch was during the kashmir lock-down period but i'm glad that we didnt cancel it. the long walks were moderately tough so you definitely need prepare a bit for fitness but its totally manageable. the descent was daunting but thats always the case in my experience. we did face issues with accommodation n return transport on last day due to the curfew situation and operator could have done better job in co-ordinating it rather than just leaving us on our fate. that was the only sore point of the whole experience. I highly recommend this trek to anyone who wish to experience the real beauty of Kashmir and why its called jannat on the earth.

Recapturing Leh-Ladakh It was Manali-Jispa-Sarchu-Leh-NubraValley-Pangong-Leh-Kargil-Srinagar, I was a solo rider with RE Himalayan. In total, my group consists of 22 people and 17 Bikes. It was one hell of a journey. The group, guide, mechanic, truck driver, and the organizer were awesome. They made me feel like family. The Guide whose name is TANI, he is a gentleman and he is excellent in his job. He made it clear that everyone is safe, having fun and not missing out any adventure. I helped every team member a lot with driving & etc. One of the best things about him was he took care of the fact that every bike travel together and no one is left behind. The Mechanic whose name is SHASHI, the mechanic I have seen till now, I haven't seen any damage bike that he can not repair. Throughout the journey, he was the most important person because he took care of our bike and see to it that we do not face any problem. The best things about him were he would check and test every bike every night before the morning ride. The Organiser Jigmet was humble and he took care of everything, from permits to protections. 4 Camps and 4 Hotels, all were very very good. Comfort Stay with unbelievable views. The bike was all-most new and excellent in condition. The journey was full of adventure, bliss, awesomeness and etc. Believe me, I cannot describe this journey into word. I am speechless. We joined 4D3N Kashmir trip with Thrillophilia. They gave me great suggestions on places to visit and activities to do.The hotels they arranged were perfect! We stayed in beautiful locations with incredible views, and the staff were very welcoming. Our guide, "Umer",  he knew everything & explained well about the history, culture, and hidden gems of Kashmir.  My recent trip to Kashmir was absolutely unforgettable! I’m still in awe of the breathtaking scenery and the warm hospitality.Kashmir is truly a paradise on Earth – I had the most incredible time exploring its natural beauty. The people of Kashmir were so welcoming and helpful.Visiting Kashmir in winter was magical, with the snow-covered landscapes offering a picture-perfect view at every turn. I would highly recommend Thrillophilia to anyone planning a trip to Kashmir.

Since this was our first trip to Kashmir , we were really skeptical on finding a travel plan and organisers . We enquired multiple teams and we finalised on Thrillophilia since we did not want any kind of risks and for the reputation that Thrillophilia holds.  It was truly an unforgettable experience. From the very beginning, the team ensured a smooth and hassle-free journey. Sathyam, our travel agent, was incredibly helpful, providing us with all the necessary details well in advance and even securing us an upgrade along with a special discount. He was always available on call or chat for all the queries we had. He was really patient since we did ask him with a lot of questions 😃. He also made us aware of taking a postpaid sim , booking Gundola ride well in advance etc. The entire booking and payment process was well-structured, with convenient reminders and multiple payment options, making it stress-free. What truly stood out was the proactive approach of the Thrillophilia team—they checked on us regularly to ensure we were comfortable and having a great time. Upon arrival in Kashmir, we were warmly assisted by our driver, Adil, who made our journey even more enjoyable with his local insights and hospitality. Additionally, Sumaira, the on-ground coordinator, was always available to help us with any queries, making sure everything went seamlessly. Autumn in Kashmir was really amazing. Being from the south side , the golden leaves , autumn climate ,etc was completely new to us and it was a different side of Kashmir to us. I would definitely recommend mughal gardens as a must visit place in Autumn.  Overall, this trip exceeded our expectations, and we are grateful for the exceptional service. We have promised ourselves that we will be visiting Kashmir again , this time in spring to experience Snow (if lucky) and it would definitely be with Thillophilia.  Would definitely recommend Thrillophilia for a hassle free and professional experience. 💯 Cheers Guys ! See you again ! ♥️

Our recent trip to Kashmir with Thrillophilia was an enjoyable blend of fun and adventure. The travel arrangements and hotel check-ins were seamless, making the journey smooth overall. That said, the trip had some incredible highlights that made it truly memorable. The Shikara ride on Dal Lake, the gondola ride in Gulmarg, and the stunning views of Betaab Valley were unforgettable. A special mention goes to our driver, Mr. Althaf Ahmed, who was not only excellent behind the wheel but also a great guide. He was punctual, friendly, and kept the vehicle in top condition throughout. Beyond driving, Mr. Ahmed enhanced our experience by taking us to some hidden gems of Kashmir, including the serene Marthand Sun Temple, delicious walnut fudge spots, Harrisaa for breakfast and places for local shopping to pick up souvenirs for our family. His insights and suggestions on the best viewpoints and gear for specific locations were invaluable. Overall, this trip has inspired us to visit Kashmir again, perhaps in the summer. Thank you, Thrillophilia, for the wonderful memories. And for anyone visiting, I highly recommend Mr. Althaf Ahmed as your guide and driver!
