Best Time to Visit Srinagar
April to June
With a temperature of 8°C to 30°C, this window is perfect for comfortably covering Srinagar. Cool mornings and warm afternoons with great visibility make this a suitable window for outdoor-heavy itineraries, making it a peak booking window for Srinagar group packages. Due to the high traveller demand of this season, prices are all inflated by 20-30%.
Highlights: Tulip blooms at Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden (March-April), gardens in full bloom
July to September
If you don’t mind the occasional rain, this is a great window for a Srinagar trip with a temperature of 15°C to 32°C. With no inflated prices, this offers a good travelling season for itineraries balanced with both indoor and outdoor activities. However, this season also poses some landslide risks on highways, especially towards Pahalgam and Sonamarg.
Highlights: Deep green valleys, apple orchards at their peak, fewer crowds
October to November
This is another one of Srinagar’s peak seasons with a temperature of 5°C to 25°C. The weather is dry and crisp, gradually getting cooler by the day. With clear skies, this window is great for outdoor sightseeing, especially because of the fewer crowds, making it perfect for travellers who like slow-paced, quiet trips.
Highlights: Chinar trees across Srinagar turn into golden-red shades, best photography window, misty Dal Lake mornings, good deals on hotel pricings
December to February
For travellers seeking to experience snow, this is the perfect time to travel to Srinagar. However, with a temperature of -2°C to 12°C, the weather is cold, and the nights are often freezing. On heavy snowfall days, visibility is minimal, along with limited mobility, with increased risks of landslides and road blockages.
Highlights: Snow-covered Srinagar and its surroundings, frozen Dal Lake edges, Gulmarg access for skiing, and a 20-30% discount on hotel pricing due to low traveller demand
Dal Lake: Also known as ‘Srinagar’s Jewel’, it’s an 18-22 km² lake located in Srinagar at a height of 1,583 metres. Surrounded by Mughal Gardens and Zabarwan mountains, Dal Lake is famous for houseboats and shikara rides amidst the floating gardens (rad).
Shalimar Bagh: This is the largest garden in all of Kashmir. Built for Nur Jahan in 1619, it’s located over an area of 31 acres. The ‘Char Bagh’ features 3 descending terraces, each one for a different use, a central water canal, and chini khanas (arched niches, lit up during the evening).
Nishat Bagh: Built by Nur Jahan’s brother in 1633, the Nishat Bagh offers one of the best views of the Dal Lake. Surrounded by the Zabarwan Mountains, this features 12 terraced gardens, one for each zodiac sign, and is designed based on Persian architecture.
Shankaracharya Temple: Located on top of the Shankaracharya Hill, this is a common inclusion in most Srinagar family tour packages. Situated at a height of 1,100 ft, you can view the entirety of Srinagar and the Dal Lake from here, making it great for photography sessions. Pilgrims have to climb 243 steps to reach the top, although a road option leading up to the hill is also available now. No phones or cameras are allowed inside, with strict monitoring.
Lal Chowk: Srinagar’s main commercial hub, known for its Tilla work, which is basically embroidery done using gold or silver thread. The detailing of the work is striking and requires a high level of craftsmanship to produce over a period of several weeks. Additionally, the Koker Bazaar here offers the best dry fruits in Srinagar.
Best Things to Do in Srinagar
Srinagar offers a plethora of experiences suited for both budget-conscious travellers andluxury Kashmir tripswith a Srinagar-specific focus.

The team made me feel so secure. I would definitely recommend Thrillophilia to anyone looking for a comfortable and enjoyable travel experience. Thank you for making our trip special! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The trip was super good. I had a group trip to ladakh via manali. Firstly, trillophilla got us a thoughful combination of hotels/homestays/camps/cottages. And all of them were of good quality. The driver and local toor companies hired by trillophilla were great . The travel vehicle was in great condition. My only complain was volvo. They could have got us a better volvo from dehli to manali. Rest, well planned itenary, good quality food, nice places to stay, great travel vehicle and guide. It really helped to make my ladakh trip hassle free and a meomerable one.
We had a wonderful experience during this trip. Our travel experience was smooth and good. Travel guide assigned to us was Dawood, who treated us exceptionally well. Dawood was amazing and professional in his conduct and he made our trip in Kashmir more pleasant.
We travelled to Kashmir with our parents and kids. Snowfall in Gulmarg was something the kids are still talking about. Houseboat stay was peaceful and the local driver assigned to us was extremely polite throughout the journey.
The tulip garden, shikara ride, Gulmarg, every moment felt magical. Our coordinator had added small personal touches like flower arrangements in the houseboat room. That level of care made the trip special. Highly recommend for couples.
Srinagar Tour faqs
Is network/connectivity an issue for Srinagar trips?
Most hotels have WiFi, so connectivity is not an issue. Post-paid SIMs tend to perform better than pre-paid ones, according to our Kashmir experts. However, network reception is unstable in deeper regions of Pahalgam and Sonamarg extensions from Srinagar.
Where should you stay in Srinagar?
If you want easy access to the Mughal Gardens and want the best views of the lakes, stay near Dal Lake. For quieter and more private stays with fewer crowds, Nigeen Lake is the best option. If you’re on a budget and want easy access to transport hubs and the Old City circuit, Lal Chowk is the best area to stay in.
Are ATMs and digital payments reliable in Srinagar?
With relatively strong network connectivity, UPI works easily in most traveller sites, along with the availability of multiple ATMs throughout Srinagar. We still recommend carrying cash up to INR 10,000 for remote areas or small shops.
Are Thrillophilia's Srinagar packages suitable for senior citizens?
For senior citizens, we’d recommend choosing a package with a slower pace. When informed, we design age-sensitive itineraries for seniors. Private cars, less adventurous routes, and ground-floor accommodations are some of the elements we include for a senior traveller.
How do you reach Srinagar?
There are direct operational flights from major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Kolkata to Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport (SXR). You can also travel to Jammu Tawi via train from major Indian cities and then take a 3-hour scenic train ride to reach Srinagar.
Is it safe to visit Srinagar from India in 2026-2027?
It is safe if you stick within tourist-safe zones. There are very clear signs in all regions that specify the tourist-safe routes. On top of that, tourist zones remain actively monitored, though travellers should always check current advisories.
What food should you try in Srinagar?
Try wazwan dishes like Rogan Josh or Yakhni. If you’re a vegetarian, go for Modur Pulao and Kahwa, a unique Kashmiri tea. Ahdoos Restaurant offers authentically prepared, refined Kashmiri dishes, while Mughal Darbar offers more budget-friendly options for the same dishes.
How does local transport work in Srinagar?
You can book private cabs on a per-day basis with an option for shared cabs too; however, they’re not as flexible as private ones. It costs INR 20,000-25,000 for hiring a vehicle for 5 days on average.
What should you pack for a Srinagar trip, especially in winter?
Pack thermals and fleece for your inner layers and waterproof jackets for outer layers. Ensure that all your accessories (gloves, socks, and shoes) are waterproof. We would advise against packing heavy clothing meant only for fashion.
When is the best time to visit Srinagar?
April to June is the peak traveller season for springtime blooms and perfect weather for sightseeing. If you want to watch the autumn foliage, October-November is the best window for it. But if your priority is avoiding the peak pricing, July-September is the perfect time to visit.
