There are restricted areas in Andaman, especially in the tribal areas where no-entry zone is banded. The RAP is easily available on arrival at Port Blair by flight or ship from the Immigration Authorities for 30 days subject to availability of valid visa. The permit is accessible for 15 days. It can also be obtained from Indian Missions overseas and also from the foreigners Registration offices at New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata and from the Immigration Authorities at the Airports of New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.

    No you can’t visit any islands of your choice because there are prohibited islands where tribes stay also out of total 550 something islands only 25-30 are open for tourist. Foreign national need RAP in order to visit certain islands. You need to check which island can be visited and which not.

  • Q. How do I come from Port Blair to Havelock and back? Should I return the same day?

    There is an active passenger ferry system to carry people from one island to another. You can always avail that. If you are looking for something different and private, helicopter shuttles are also available to carry a small number of people from one island to another. To reach Havelock Island from Port Blair, it will take 3 hrs 12min. There are regular government and private ferry service. You can spend some days at Havelock Island to explore some exotic beaches and locations around. This also allows you to take rest and experience the place

  • Q. Is there any shopping area?

    There are various beach markets and outlets to shop in Andaman. From cane handicrafts to wooden decorative items, one can shop for different option. Don't expect good apparels in the island. Visit Port Blair market for interior decoration shopping. With the rise in tourism, the shopping options have also increased. Visit beach town where you'll find some amazing accessories made out of sea items. The sea-shell jewellery made legally here is the best buy.

    Try out the shelves of Port Blair's live street market stacked with small bamboo figurines, mats and beautiful showpieces. Do visit the famous Aberdeen Bazaar, the main shopping center in Port Blair. Bordered by shelter's selling everything from household items, exquisite showpieces to beach wear and accessories.

    There are some good medical facilities in Andaman. GB Pant Hospital, INHS Dhanvantari, Chakraborty Hospital, Pillar Health Center, ACE Hospital and few others.

  • Q. What network services are good at Andaman?

    Network of both internet and phone are good in Port Blair and Havelock. Airtel, Vodafone and BSNL are three major networks connect for both. If you plan to visit any remote island, the network may pose a problem.

  • Q. Can I make international calls and access the internet on the Andamans? Are there any ATMs in Andaman?

    Yes, Port Blair is quite well connected with internet and network services. However, we can’t guarantee any such thing if you plan to visit remote islands.

    SBI, Punjab National Bank, HDFC, Syndicate Bank, ICICI and other state private and public bank ATMs are available in Andaman, Port Blair and Havelock. However, it will be difficult to locate any ATM service at the minor remote islands. We ask you to carry enough cash when you will be visiting these islands.

  • Q. Can anyone meet the endangered tribes on the Island?

    It is illegal to meet with indigenous tribes under the Indian law and we encourage any tourists visiting Andaman to remain away from the indigenous tribes. It promotes safety on mutual side.
