3. By Train: You can also reach Ladakh via a train ride. The closest railhead to Ladakh is Jammu Tawi, situated approximately 708 kilometres away. 2. Pack the right clothes: Due to Ladakh’s unpredictable climate, it is advisable to pack plenty of heavy woollen clothing, even in summer. You must also pack essentials, such as body moisturisers, sunscreen lotions, and sunglasses.

3. Prioritize acclimatization: To avoid altitude sickness, ensure that you give yourself a day or two to get used to the thin air before indulging in strenuous activities like trekking.

4. Always carry cash: Due to the scarcity of ATMs and credit card facilities, ensure that you carry enough cash for your trip. 

5. Stay hydrated: High altitudes can cause dehydration, so it is best to always keep plenty of drinking water on hand.  

6. Be informed about the local facilities: It is advised to know the region well in advance and the local norms for not hurting the sentiments of its natives. Leh, the capital city, offers modern amenities, including long-distance call booths. Banking facilities are limited to Leh and Kargil. Ensure to carry enough Indian currency as credit cards are not widely accepted.

Currently home to around 150 Buddhist monks, who have been preserving the Alchi religious community’s teachings and culture, the Lamayuru monastery lies about 125 kilometres from Leh, and is one of the largest and oldest Gompas in Ladakh. 

    Perched atop a cliff at about 3,150 metres, it offers breathtaking views of the valleys around, and the village of Lamayuru is also referred to as the Moonland. It is also known for being the main seat of the Drikung Kagyu tradition, and more than 50 monasteries in the region are under the leadership of the Lamayuru Monastery. This 11th-century monastery was started by Mahasiddha Naropa, who took refuge in one of its caves. There is also an ancient Seng-ge-sgang temple situated at the southern end of this place. So if you’re driving from Leh to Srinagar, this picture-perfect postcard of a monastery comes on the highway itself and visiting this is a must, so you should include them in your
