Wayanad Packages

Reviewed by Thrillophilia Wayanad Operations Team

Updated as of April 2026

Wayanad tour packages by Thrillophilia start from INR 7,500 and range up to INR 42,000 per person, with 2 to 4-day itineraries designed based on real travel routes, ground insights, and traveller feedback. Situated in the lush hills of the Western Ghats in Kerala, Wayanad is popular for plantations, forests, wildlife-filled landscapes, and waterfalls. You can reach the nearby cities like Bengaluru, Mysuru, or Kozhikode to start your journey or combine it with a short Kerala hill or forest break. The attractions of the region are spread across plantations, forest roads, and wildlife areas, so travel between places is important as much as the spots themselves. This is the reason Wayanad Tour Packages by Thrillophilia are well-curated with various routes and different travel styles.

As per our internal 2025 booking data analysed by the operations team, most travellers underestimate travel time in Wayanad, as distances between key attractions across forest roads and hill routes can take longer than expected. This is why 3 to 4-day trips with clustered sightseeing and fewer hotel changes tend to offer a more comfortable experience. Seasonal factors also play a role, with monsoon months affecting access to waterfalls and trekking routes, and peak weekends seeing higher crowd movement from nearby cities like Bengaluru and Kozhikode.

With 2,100+ Wayanad tour packages successfully executed by us and an average traveller rating of 4.5, our itineraries are built on actual on-ground execution and continuous feedback. Since we have handled a high volume of Wayanad trips, our plans factor in how to route the places, buffer time, and realistic daily coverage. We do not believe in following an unrealistic plan while rushing multiple distant attractions in a single day.

Our Wayanad trip packages are made with various inclusions like local guides, verified stays, sightseeing, and selected activities, along with transfers, accommodations, and unique experiences. So, whether you are planning for a family trip to Wayanad, a relaxed monsoon retreat, a couple’s getaway, or an adventure-focused break with waterfalls and trekking, we’ll ensure you get an amazing experience.

What Is Included in a Wayanad Tour Package

Wayanad tour packages by Thrillophilia are planned to keep travel smooth, especially since most movement here is by road and attractions are spread out.

In most cases, you can expect:

  • Comfortable, verified stays based on location and traveller feedback
  • Daily breakfast, with some packages including selected meals
  • Local and intercity transfers for easy travel between places
  • Sightseeing at key spots like caves, waterfalls, and viewpoints

Depending on your itinerary, you may also get:

  • Guided tours and treks
  • Plantation visits or local experiences

From our experience, what matters most is good planning. That’s why packages also include on-ground support and flexible customisation, so your trip feels smooth and not rushed.

Who This Trip Is Best For

Couples and honeymooners: If you’re looking for a quieter, more scenic experience, Wayanad works best with well-located stays, short nature walks, and waterfall visits spaced out over the day. Most couples prefer slower itineraries with fewer check-ins and more time at the property, especially in areas like Meppadi and Vythiri.

Families: Wayanad is a good fit for families when the plan focuses on easy-access spots like dams, lakes, and plantation areas, instead of long treks. Based on our experience, it’s better to limit physically demanding activities and keep travel distances shorter, especially when travelling with kids or seniors.

Adventure travellers: If you enjoy being active, Wayanad offers treks like Chembra Peak, ziplining, and wildlife safaris, but these need proper planning. Permits, weather conditions, and timing slots play a big role, so itineraries are usually structured around 1–2 key activities per day rather than overloading.

Weekend travellers (from Bengaluru, Mysuru, Kozhikode): For short trips, the destination works best with tight route planning and early start times. Since most of your travel is by road, choosing the right circuit and avoiding backtracking is what makes a 2–3 day trip feel smooth instead of rushed.

Planning tip: From what we’ve seen, Wayanad trips feel most enjoyable when you don’t try to cover every waterfall or trek. A better approach is to pick a few key experiences and plan your route around them, so travel time doesn’t take over your trip.

Thrillophilia Traveller Note:

Alok Kumar, who travelled with us via Scenic Getaway to Wayanad, told us, “This was my first booking through Thrillophilia for Wayanad, aka God's own paradise. I was a bit anxious at the start, but Thrillophilia members, especially Rahul and Komal Meena, made sure all the arrangements were perfectly executed and delivered. The whole trip was planned, and the only thing that we were worried about was 'what are we gonna wear today' :p as all other things were handled gracefully. I have attached the beautiful pics of our group and Wayanad, which depict how much we enjoyed. Special thanks to Komal, our point of contact, for gracefully handling whatever queries we had and even attending our calls while riding to the office on her scooty :D :)) It shows the sincerity and responsiveness qualities. At the end, shoutout to Naveen, our travel driver, for taking us from one place to another smoothly. Lastly, A big shoutout to the Thrillophilia team and Komal for this wonderful Wayanad travel. We loved it :) Thank you.”

Best Time to Visit Wayanad

October to February:

This is the peak season to explore Wayanad with temperatures ranging between 10°C and 25°C. Due to clear weather, you can enjoy the wildlife safaris, sightseeing, and famous treks like Chembra Peak. These months are ideal for first-time visitors, couples, and families, due to higher attraction accessibility and better road conditions.

March to May:

During these months, temperatures can rise to 30°C–35°C in daytime, but mornings and evenings remain comfortable for exploration. This season is perfect for school holiday travel, plantation visits, and resort stays. However, trekking in these months can be challenging and tiring for visitors.

June to September:

This is the monsoon season in Wayanad, when you can experience heavy rainfall. The season transforms the region into a lush green landscape with a good waterfall flow at places like Meenmutty Waterfalls. However, you can experience slower road travel, leeches, and slippery tails.

Please note that access to certain waterfalls and treks depends on permissions and local safety checks by the Kerala Forest Department. Monsoon trips may not be ideal for seniors or for those who seek uninterrupted and easy movement. Also, weekend crowding from nearby cities may also affect your experience and travel time.

How to Reach Wayanad

While planning for a Wayanad trip, there are various options to reach the region, i.e. air, train, and road.

By Air: One of the nearest airports to Wayand is Calicut International Airport, located at a distance of around 90 km. You can also take flights to Kempegowda International Airport and Kannur International Airport based on your route. From the airport, you can complete your journey by road via private transfers or taxis.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Kozhikode Railway Station, which is well-connected to major cities. Another option is Mysuru Junction, which is around 125 km away from Wayanad, and you will need a road transfer of around 3-4 hours to reach your destination.

By Road: Wayanad is a road-first destination, as most of your journey and all local travel is done by road. It is well-connected from Kozhikode (2–3 hours), Mysuru (3-4 hours), and Bengaluru (6–7 hours), making the district accessible for short trips.

Why stay area matter after arrival?

After reaching Wayanad, your stay locations, such as Meppadi, Kalpetta, Sultan Bathery, etc., play a significant role in your daily travel time. Attractions are located across forest roads and hills. Selecting the right stay is beneficial in reducing long drives for a well-paced itinerary.

Best Places to Cover on a Wayanad Trip

1. Edakkal Caves

Situated amidst the forested hills of Wayanad, Edakkal Caves are known for their rock carvings, showing human figures and animals. To reach the caves, you need to steep uphill walk followed by narrow pathways and stone steps, making it a memorable experience. A visit to Edakkal Caves takes around 2-3 hours, including the exploration and climb. It is ideal for active couples and travellers, and families with older children can also plan to visit here comfortably. Entry and access can be affected by adverse weather, such as heavy rain, so it is advised to plan your visit accordingly.

2. Kuruva Island

It is a peaceful group of islands in the middle of the Kabini River and connected by walking paths. It is an ideal place to admire the beauty of nature, like birds, trees, and butterflies. With Wayanad tour packages, you can enjoy birdwatching, bamboo rafting (when permitted), and photography here. A visit to Kuruva Island takes 2-3 hours, depending on your pace of exploration. It is suitable for couples, families, and seniors due to comfortable walks and various activities. The island is sometimes closed during heavy rains or when the water level is high, and entry to the island depends on the weather or forest rules.

3. Chembra Peak

Standing at around 2,100 metres above sea level, Chembra Peak is the highest peak in Wayanad and is known for its beautiful trekking routes. One of the key highlights of this peak is Hridaya Saras, the heart-shaped lake, along with scenic views of rolling hills and forests. The visit to the peak takes around 3–4 hours round trip, where you can enjoy photography, trekking, and nature walks. The trip is ideal for couples and active travellers, as trekking can be tiring for children and seniors. Entry requires permission from the Kerala Forest Department, as there is a daily visitor limit.

4. Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary

Covering an area of around 344 sq km, it is a part of the larger Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. While exploring the sanctuary, you can see a wide range of animals, including deer, monkeys, elephants, bison (gaur), leopards, tigers, and various bird species. The key activity is a guided jeep safari, where you can enjoy beautiful forest views and see wildlife comfortably. The visit is best suited for wildlife lovers, families, and couples and takes around 2-3 hours. For entry in the sanctuary, you need to get permission from the Kerala Forest Department. You need to plan your safaris, as it depends on timings, availability, and weather.

5. Meenmutty Waterfalls

Falling from a height of around 300 metres in various tiers, Meenmutty Waterfalls is known as one of the largest waterfalls in Wayanad. Surrounded by dense forest, it is popular among visitors for its photography spots, amazing views, and a memorable nature experience. A visit to the waterfall usually takes 3-4 hours, including the trek through forest paths, which is a challenging activity for travellers. It is ideal for couples and adventure seekers, while it may be tough for families and seniors. Due to safety concerns, access to the waterfall may be restricted during heavy rains.

6. Banasura Sagar Dam

Stretching to about 685 metres in length, it is the largest earthen dam in India. Situated against the beautiful Banasura hills, the dam is known for its small green islands and wide reservoir. It is a famous stop on a Wayanad tour, where you can enjoy photography, boating, and short walks. A visit to Banasura Sagar Dam takes around 1.5-2 hours, which is ideal for seniors, couples, and families. Entry to the dam is open all year round; however, boating activities depend on weather conditions and water levels.

7. Bamboo Forests

With peaceful surroundings, rich wildlife, and bamboo groves, the Bamboo Forests in Wayanad are ideal for nature lovers, families, and couples. These forests are famous for jeep safaris, nature walks, and wildlife watching, such as deer, elephants, and birds, in areas near forest reserves. A visit to the forests takes around 2-3 hours, where you can enjoy photography, peaceful walks, and a close-to-nature experience. During the Wayanad trip, active travellers can also combine the forest visit with safaris. As the entry to the forests is managed by the Kerala Forest Department, access may be limited on the basis of forest permissions.

8. Jain Temple

Jain Temple Wayanad is a significant heritage site, famous for its historical value and simple yet strong stone architecture. Dating back to the 13th century, the temple shows Jain culture and also served as a storage place during the Tipu Sultan campaigns in Malabar. A visit to the temple typically takes around 30-45 minutes, where you can see stone walls, carved pillars, and calm temple surroundings. The temple visit is ideal for seniors, couples, and families due to its easy access. The temple is open all year round with no weather or permission restrictions.

Things to do in Wayanad

Trek to Chembra Peak

Standing at a height of around 2,100 metres, Chembra Peak provides scenic views of forests and rolling hills. Trekking to the peak is one of the most popular activities in Wayanad among travellers. On the way, you can admire the heart-shaped lake, which is the key highlight of this activity. The trek takes around 3-4 hours round trip and needs a moderate fitness level. Entry is managed by the Kerala Forest Department, and permission may be denied during heavy rains or bad weather conditions.

Explore Edakkal Caves

Known for their ancient rock carvings, Edakkal Caves are believed to be thousands of years old. Reaching the caves includes a steep uphill walk followed by narrow paths and climbing paths. Here, you can see carvings of animals and human figures, providing an insight into early life. Here, you can also explore nearby stalls for handicrafts and local snacks. You can visit caves early in the morning to avoid crowds and have a more relaxed experience.

View sunrise at Lakkidi View Point

Lakkidi View Point is one of the highest viewpoints in Wayanad, situated along the Thamarassery Ghat road. From this viewpoint, you can admire wide views of mist-covered hills, valleys, and winding ghat roads. It is one of the best places for sunrise photography when clouds are floating below the hills. Here, you can click pictures, take short breaks, and enjoy the cool breeze.

Enjoy boating at Pookode Lake

Pookode Lake is a freshwater lake situated at an altitude of about 770 metres above sea level. Surrounded by hills and forests, the lake is known for its peaceful setting and scenic beauty. Here, you can enjoy row boating or pedal boating on the lake or take short walks along the pathways. A visit to the lake generally takes 1-2 hours and is ideal for couples, families, and solo travellers.

Cycling on Plantation roads near Kalpetta

Have a wonderful experience as you ride through coffee, tea, and spice plantations with scenic views and gentle slopes near Kalpetta. Routes include slightly hilly stretches to easy village roads, making it ideal for both beginners and active travellers. A cycling session can take 2-3 hours, when you can enjoy photography, village life, and fresh air along the way.

Most Popular Wayanad Itineraries by Duration

Planning a Wayanad trip is less about how many days you have and more about how well your route is structured. Since most travel here happens by road and attractions are spread out, these itineraries are designed based on what actually works on the ground, not just distance on a map.

Food, Stay Areas, and Practical Tips for Wayanad

Malabar Food Expectations

In Wayanad, you will find the Malabar style of Kerala in cuisine with coconut flavours, rice-based meals, and dishes like appam, curries, and Malabar biryani. Non-vegetarian food, like fish and chicken, is very common here, while you will find spice levels moderate in dishes.

Vegetarian Comfort

You can easily find vegetarian food in Wayanad, especially in towns like Sulthan Bathery and Kalpetta. During your Wayand tour, you can enjoy various food options such as idlis, dosas, meals (thali), and North Indian dishes. However, there can be limited varieties in remote areas, so you should check meal options prior.

Resort Stays vs Town Stays

Resort stays in areas like Meppadi provide calm surroundings, beautiful views, and a relaxed pace, but it will take more travel time for sightseeing. Town stays like Sulthan Bathery and Kalpetta provide more food options, better connectivity to attractions, and easy access to places.

Meal Timings & Dining Reality

There are fixed timings for meals in local restaurants, i.e. breakfast (07:30–10:30 AM), lunch (12:00–03:00 PM), and dinner (07:00–10:00 PM). You will find limited options for late-night dinners, especially in outside town areas, so you need to plan your meal in advance.

Driving & Daily Planning Tips

Wayand is a road-based destination with hilly areas, so you need to keep in mind that distances can take longer time than expected. You should start early in the day to cover 2 or 3 major places comfortably. Also, you need to be weather updated, as monsoons can slow down your travel significantly.

Travel Updates and Safety Information for Wayanad

  • Entry is capped at ~1,920 visitors per day in Edakkal Caves, so it is advised to visit the caves early in the morning to avoid access difficulties.
  • In forest or ghat sections, you can expect leeches on trails, slower road movement, and occasional temporary route restrictions during the monsoon season.
  • Cave and trekking route access may be temporarily closed during heavy rains because of safety risks and slippery trails.
  • Activities like wildlife safaris and Chembra Peak trekking need permission from the Kerala Forest Department, with limited daily slots.
  • During heavy rain periods and extreme weather events in past years, disasters like landslides have increased in various parts of Wayanad. It is advised to plan your Wayanad trip accordingly, around hill routes and forest areas.

Common Planning Mistakes Travellers Make

  • Wrong Stay Location: Selecting the wrong stay area, such as staying far from key attractions, reduces actual sightseeing and increases daily travel time.
  • Assuming All Activities Are Easy: Assuming each activity is family-friendly, as tough treks, waterfalls, and caves require physical effort.
  • Ignoring Monsoon Conditions: Avoid monsoon road conditions and trail challenges during heavy rains when routes can be slow or slippery.
  • Overloading a Short Trip: Trying to cover all major treks, waterfalls, and wildlife places in 2 days, which can be the cause of rushed travel between places.
  • Skipping Entry Timings & Permits: Not focusing on entry timings and permit limits at places like trekking points, caves, and waterfalls.
  • Not Checking Weather Updates: Not checking weather updates and forecasts during the monsoon season can be the cause of last-minute changes in plans.

Why Travellers Trust Thrillophilia for Wayanad Tour Packages

With destinations like Wayanad seeing over 1.3 million travellers in 2025 itself, as per Kerala Tourism, our approach focuses on handling real on-ground challenges like crowd flow, route timing, and availability.

  • Ground-tested routes: Our itineraries are built from repeated on-ground execution, not just planning. From our internal trip data, we’ve seen that most delays happen on ghat roads and forest stretches, so your days are designed with buffer time and realistic coverage.
  • Smarter stay areas: Where you stay directly affects your trip. We guide you towards areas like Kalpetta, Meppadi, or Sultan Bathery based on what you want to cover, so you spend less time driving and more time actually exploring.
  • Permit and timing awareness: Entry to places like Edakkal Caves or Chembra Peak isn’t unlimited. We plan your itinerary around permit caps, timings, and seasonal closures, so you don’t miss key experiences after reaching there.
  • Better day-wise pacing: Instead of packing everything in, we structure your trip around what you can comfortably do in a day, like limiting treks and long drives together, so you don’t end up exhausted midway.
  • Support when it actually matters: With a 4.5+ rating across Wayanad trips, travellers rely on us when things change on-ground, whether it’s weather shifts, route delays, or activity availability.

This was my first booking through Thrillophilia for Wayanad aka God's own paradise. I was bit anxious at start but Thrillophilia members especially Rahul and Komal Meena made sure all the arrangements were perfectly executed and delivered. The whole trip was planned and only thing that we were worried was 'what are we gonna wear today' :p as all other things were handled gracefully. I have attached the beautiful pics of our group and wayanad which depicts how much we enjoyed. Special thanks to Komal, our point of contact, for gracefully handling whatever queries we had and even attending our calls while riding to office on her scooty :D :))... Read More

The drive to Thekkady was a bit curvy, but the stunning scenery made the journey very enjoyable. The coordination was very professional and we never had to wait for our vehicle at any point. The rooms in Munnar were cozy and had a beautiful view of the valley. We had a great time exploring the local markets and buying some fresh tea and coffee. A very well-organized trip that delivered exactly what was promised.

Loved the serenity of the backwaters after the constant noise of the capital city. It’s so different from the chaos of Delhi; we actually felt like we were on a vacation. The support team kept in touch with us daily on WhatsApp to ensure everything was going according to plan. The hotel in Kochi was right in the middle of the heritage area, making it easy to explore the local markets and cafes during our free time.

We particularly loved the resort in Thekkady which was surrounded by trees and had a very peaceful vibe. The backwater cruise was a unique experience that we will cherish. Overall, it was a very high-quality trip and worth every rupee spent.

Booked: Scenic Getaway to Wayanad
Travelled From: Mumbai
We took the flight from Mumbai and the pickup at Kochi airport was right on time with a smiling driver waiting for us. The Varkala cliff views are way better than what you see in photos; it’s a must-visit for beach lovers. Deepak was a great help throughout the booking, explaining the itinerary clearly and helping with hotel upgrades. Even though it was a busy season, all our entries and tours were pre-arranged, saving us a lot of time.
