When it comes to food, what is impossible to miss in Gangtok includes Momos, Thukpa, Wonton, Gyathuk, Thenthuk and more, along with a Sikkim style meat patty called Shah-Phaley. Gangtok can be visited all throughout the year, however, the temperature in December to February can go below freezing point, so it is advisable to visit only if you are used to such cold weather. While, on the other hand, summers have an ideal weather. Being a hilly region, you never have to worry about it being too hot. The only season you have to be careful about is the monsoon when there could be heavy landslides and hence travelling to Gangtok should ideally be avoided. Usually, most of the tourists plan a 2 to 3 nights Gangtok Tour Package. However, if you wish to stay longer, there are plenty more places and things to do that  shall keep you busy.

This was my first trip with Thrillophilia as well as with complete strangers. I must say that Thrillophilia did not disappoint me ( nobody is perfect, so be flexible to accept minute glitches) . The whole trip went so smooth , starting from the pick up from airport, the hotels we got, arrangement of permits, site seeing and drop at the airport. Special thanks to Deep ( trip coordinator from tour angle) and Ammu ( my cab driver) . P. S. : if you want to see the flower calf yumthang valley and the frozen Tsomgo and Gurudongmar lake , then the ideal time to visit north Sikkim is March-April. November is the ideal time to witness the pleasant winter of sikkim along with its untouched beauty. Looking forward to travel more with Thrillophilia. P.S: the only problem which we faced was two co- passengers who used to get late for everything and because of them we had to rush from each location because of time constraint ( I totally understand that this things isn’t in the hand of Thrillophilia)

I am madly and deeply in love with Sikkim. I can't believe a place like this can be so beautiful and still people are unaware about it. Walking through narrow pathways and tiny hamlets on the way make this place all the more interesting and worth the effort.

  9. What’s so special about the Goecha La Trek? How long does it take?

Goechala trek is special for providing the grand views of big mountains. You don’t just see one summit of the Kanchenjunga but  get to see 14 other big summits. Trekkers consider Goechala to be the closest to the big mountain treks of Nepal. However, it is only in the months of October and November, with the haze out of the way, that you get the best views. The mountain views are razor sharp that offer the best sunrises and sunsets, which are absolutely jaw dropping. For photographers, the best suitable time is always from October to November. The Goechala trek starts at Yuksom, a fairly large settlement in West Sikkim and which was once the capital of Sikkim. There are two mandatory rules everybody needs to follow at Yuksom before the trek begins. One, make an entry at the police station. For this you need a photo identity proof with three photo copies. Two, you need to pay the permit fees at the forest check post. Usually, trekkers finish these formalities in the morning when they are starting the trek. The fee to be paid is broken down into small elements like tent, porter, yak and other charges. Camera charges are extra. As this trek is divided into various parts, from point to point, the total duration of the trek depends upon an individual.
