About The Guildhall Museum

The Guildhall Museum is the oldest historic building in Leicester, dating to the late fourteenth century. Over the ages, the museum has served as a town hall, police station, library, and even a prison. The building was also looted and attacked by Royalists in the 1640s during the English Civil War. Audiences are treated to plays, comedy gigs, musical concerts, exhibitions, and craft fairs in an atmospheric setting inside the museum. While walking through the prison area, you can peer inside cells to see unsettling torture devices.

The building is an atmospheric venue for civil ceremonies, weddings, and naming ceremonies. An interesting thing to note is that the museum is the most haunted building in Leicester. While visiting the museum, keep your eyes peeled for paranormal activities in the beautiful Great Hall, the old police cells, and the Mayor's Parlour, which contain a reconstruction of a gibbet.
