Rising Sun Country Park Overview

Located amid the Rising Sun Country Park, a 162 hectare oasis for humans and animals alike, lies the Rising Sun Countryside Centre. This park-based nonprofit raises pigs, chickens, and lambs and also operates a livery stable and day care. The farm serves as one of the top tourist places to visit in Newcastle, and a venue for various forms of learning, fun, and service.

There should be a place in the woods for city dwellers to get away. This 400-acre area consists of grassland, woods, a pond, marshes, and a lake, and it belongs to the city of Newcastle. Hikers, bicyclists, and riders from nearby and further afield enjoy the area because of its abundance of animals. As the focal point of the park, the lake serves as its beating heart, and nearby the north is Swallow Pond, which is a popular spot for birdwatchers.

If you're in the mood to have a picnic or barbecue, there's a designated place for that, too. The Rising Sun Country Park Café doubles as a farm store selling organic produce and is located conveniently close to the lake. However, its past is surprising, the area was formerly utilised as a coal mine and afterwards as a hospital for those with deadly diseases.
