The Great North Museum: Hancock Overview

Built in 1884 specifically to house the expanding collections of the Natural History Society of Northumbria, Newcastle's Great North Museum: Hancock is dedicated to the study of the natural world. Formerly housing the Shefton Museum, the Museum of Antiquities, and the Hancock Museum, the building underwent extensive renovations in 2009. Some of the exhibitions include Hadrian’s Wall, Living Planet, Fossil Stories, Ancient empire, Roman Empire, World Cultures, and Ancient Greeks."Fossil Stories" is on display at the Great North Museum.

Visitors to the Hancock can learn about the history of Earth through its fossil record and be amazed by the incredible specimens on display, while those who stop by the Exhibition "Hadrian's Wall" can explore an interactive model of the Wall and learn all about the milecastles, forts, and museums that can be visited today. • Animals and their environments are the focus of the museum's Living Planet gallery, which occupies both the ground floor and the first floor.
