Ouseburn Farm Overview

Located in the middle of Newcastle upon Tyne, Ouseburn Farm is a charitable communal farm. The farm's history dates back to 1976, when a pair of Byker parents purchased the land on which it presently stands. They hoped that their offspring would learn to appreciate the outdoors and the value of self-sufficiency through activities like gardening and animal care.

Newcastle's Ouseburn Farm is a popular destination for families looking to get up and personal with some of their favourite furry friends, such as guinea pigs and goats. Constructed on the site of the Northumberland Lead Works, it is emblematic of the valley's transition from an industrial wasteland to a sustainable haven for the arts. Animals including sheep, goats, pigs, ponies, and chickens populate the farm, and petting sessions are held on the weekends for kids of all ages. Less conventional residents include chinchillas, guinea pigs, tortoises, and geckos.

The gift shop and café at the visitors' centre stock local, seasonal goods and serve hot meals all year round. Ouseburn Farm regularly features art and photography exhibits and holiday concerts. In fact, the entire farm is geared for families and can be easily navigated with strollers or wheelchair. There is no cover charge, but donations are gratefully accepted.
