About Abbey Pumping Station Museum

From Victorian toilets to Roman pipes, uncover the story of how the people of Leicester dealt with their smelliest problems by visiting the Abbey Pumping Station museum. It features exhibits related to land transport, industry, social history, technology and science, and applied and decorative art. The main exhibition galleries have been set up on the ground floor. Abbey Pumping Station has a transport shed that includes buses, steam rollers, horse-drawn carriages, vintage fire engines, and several locomotives, including a working chip van and Leonard the Bagnall steam engine.

Amongst the engines, you'll find intriguing displays about life in Leicester with washing facilities, a local cinema, trams, and toys. On special days you can see the four steam-powered beam engines and vintage vehicles. The galleries are made up of room sets, exhibition panels, and cases and give a glimpse of the public health in Leicester.
