ABBEY PARK

Abbey Park is one of the best tourist attractions in Leicester, where the local dwellers and weary travelers can find some peace. It is located on the banks of the Soar River in the north of the city and features a bowling green, a lavender maze and Ping, five hard surface tennis courts, and table tennis tables.

Abbey Park is a nineteenth-century public park formed using water meadows. Today the Abbey Park grounds consist of pleasant and green spaces, but during the eighteenth century, the area was a dingy and damp marshland frequently flooded by the River Soar. The park includes the Abbey's archaeological sites and the ruins of Cavendish House. It has a wonderful setting with beautiful shrubberies, a miniature railway, lush green trees, and formally planted flower displays.

The park also features a renovated play zone with a trampoline, an underground bank slide, a basket swing, a wide slide, climbing units, and a huge sand play area. It hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including children's summer holiday activities, a hot air balloon festival in June, a fishing festival in August, and a river festival in July. An iconic feature of the park is the City of Leicester Show which celebrates the park's horticultural splendor and is one of the best provincial shows in the UK.
