Markeaton Park Overview

One of the top tourist destinations in the East Midlands, Markeaton Park has the most number of visitors in Derby. It provides a location to get away from daily life and city living to explore a small amount of the countryside right outside Derby.

Behind its modernity lies a rich history that is waiting to be discovered at Markeaton Park. The original park was created in the medieval era which then underwent numerous transformations over the following centuries. You can trace the historical journey of this park from the arable fields to an enclosed park and hall, all dating back to the 18th century. 

 This park houses some of the great historical markers including ancient veteran trees, forgotten historical pathways, ancient patterns of arable fields, a park and buildings from the 18th century. You can also find here, the remains of a Second World War army camp.
