The Yorkshire Air Museum and Allied Forces Memorial is one of the popular places to see in York. It is the largest independent air museum in Britain and is located on the former RAF Elvington airfield site.

While visiting the museum, you will feel delighted to take a look at 500,000 objects that have prominence in aviation history. You can take a look at some of the oldest plane replicas such as The Wright Flyer, 1903, the Cayley glider, 1911 Blackburn Mercury, and others. Apart from these, there are WWI planes, WWII planes, Interwar models, as well as Cold War aircraft. You will also be able to take a look at those which are still in flying order and are used for 'Thunder Days' events. Apart from the planes, the museum also houses a historic vehicle collection, mostly consisting of military automobiles, such as a 1937 Ford Model E RAF utility vehicle and others. Once done with the planes, wander to the other rooms containing other aviation-related displays before proceeding towards the Memorials.

The Allied Air Forces Memorial with its chapel and Memorial Garden was built in memory of the many Allied Servicemen who died during wars. There are special memorials on the site such as the Women's Air Memorial, RCAF memorial, and French Air Force Memorial.
