Crowland Abbey Overview

This place is steeped inside the legends and history, occupied by an abbey since 716, along with a few structures dated to the Norman era. The ancient Monastery Church’s north aisle is still intact, and visitors can imagine its original splendour through the Nave ruins.

The Crowland Abbey is a church which was founded by Ethelbald, the King of Mercia in the 8th century. This abbey plays an important role in the history of England as it has been attached to many famous people. But it was destroyed many times and rebuilted again and again. The Crowland Abbey also has “The Channel Screen,” which consists of exciting carvings and original colouring and gilding from the 15th century.

A pagan symbol featured by the “Green Man” is the porch containing a room in which priests serving the Abbey lived. It has various events happening overall, many of which support its church. Also, they offer Abbey and church for social functions, meetings, and conferences. It is one of the first places where they hung a bell which is 9 feet long and has a major significance in history.
