Folktale of the Pura Dalem Bentuyung Temple: The tale around the temple talks of a Hindu priest, belonging to Java, who was asked to move to Bali by Ida Batara Toh Langkir, who used to reside atop Mount Agung. This was because the latter found out that the priest had heard a Pawisik or spiritual whisper, which suggested that he was the one who could help cleanse Bali.

It is said that Langkir threw his weapon out of anger at the priest, and one of its parts landed in the forest. The area where the stone fragments landed later went on to become the Pura Dalem Bentuyung Temple.
