  • Dating back to the 16th century, La Fontana del Moro is amongst the most famous fountains in Rome located in Piazza Navona and is a wonderful place to unwind.
  • It was created by a team of artists under the direction of Giacomo della Porta, who carved the dolphins, dragons, and tritons.

The Maderno Fountain

  • The Maderno fountain, located on the north side of the Piazza, was created to replace an earlier fountain to beautify the area in front of St. Peter's Basilica.
  • Carlo Maderno renovated the earlier fountain by building a new octagonal foundation with a gigantic irregular basin ornamented with stairs and little columns.
  • The massive lower stone vasque of the earlier fountain was preserved, and four stone scrolls were added as embellishments to the pedestal above it.
  • After exploding from the top, the water flows downwards over the top of the upper vasque and creates a beautiful sight of sparkling droplets, enticing visitors and making it one of the most famous fountains in Rome.

Fountain of Neptune - Fontana Del Nettuno

  • Fontana del Nettuno is one of the most famous fountains in Rome that has long been used to provide water to city dwellers.
  • It was earlier known as the Fontana dei Calderari due to its location adjacent to an area housing blacksmith and metal workshops.
  • Giacomo Della Porta constructed this fountain in 1574 which provided water to the neighborhood for 300 years.

The Bernini Fountain

  • One of the famous fountains in Rome, the Bernini fountain was set in the southern section of the St. Peter's Square, following a decade in which Pope Clement X hired Gian Lorenzo Bernini to create a second fountain that closely resembled the Maderno fountain.
