The majestic Mehrangrah fort which rises above the city is one of the largest forts in India. The impregnable fort forms a picturesque backdrop to the city towering over Jodhpur at 400 ft. The thick walls of the fort enclose several palaces known for their intricate carvings and sprawling courtyards, elaborate balconies, arched galleries, and heavily ornamented private residences.
Mehrangrah fort is also famous for it’s museum which is known to be one of the most well stocked museums in Rajasthan. The museum exhibits the heritage of the royalty in arms, costumes, paintings and decorated period rooms.
There are a wide array of things that Mehrangarh Fort is famous for, The Flying Fox is a zipline activity that will provide just the right amount of an adrenalin shot as well as a breather from the sometimes tedious palace tours. This beautiful fort is also home to a few temples such as the Chamundi Mataji Temple and the Nagnechiji Temple.
For an offbeat experience at the fort, make your way to the top of the fort by 3:30 pm everyday as this is when they feed the wild kites and eagles which has been an ancestral tradition.

The Umaid Bhavan Palace is a popular spot for destination weddings as it's steeped in flare and grandeur adding to the festivity of any affair. The palace is also a venue for various fairs and festivals that take part around Jodhpur like the Marwar festival.Mandore is an ancient town, located about 9 kms from Jodhpur. Once a part of the Parihar Empire, today, it is famous for its Royal cenotaphs, temples, a ruined fort and other monuments all nestled within blankets of greenery that is dubbed as the Mandore Garden. Daal Baati Choorma at Bhavani Dal Bati- Devouring delicious Daal Bati Choorma is definitely a must to on your things to do in Jodhpur list. Mirchi Vada and Samosa at Shahi Samosa- The Halwayi tradition is very much an integral part of Jodhpur’s culture and so much so that people seem to eat their favorite snacks for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Omelet shops outside Sardar Market- There are two immensely famous Omelet shops outside the northern gates of sardar market both competing for the attention of passing travelers knocking up seemingly endless numbers of delicious and cheap omelettes.
Masala tea at Bhati Tea Stall- For all you chai lovers out there this is the perfect spot to grab a morning cuppa.
Glass of Lassi at Mishrilal Hotel- Every city in India has a few legendary street-food joints. Mishrilal Hotel is one of those treasures. Everywhere you go, you will be told about the ambrosial lassi served at this little restaurant near Jodhpur’s clock tower. It is very popular with the locals.Shopping is amongst everybody’s utmost favourite things to do in Jodhpur. A trip to Jodhpur wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the bustling Old City laden with shops selling artefacts, spices and saris. Sardar Market consist of the labyrinth of shops and retains a traditional bazaar feel, it’s beautifully chaotic and colorful and someone is constantly trying to sell you something.
The best way to get to this place is by taking the steep walking path from Mehrangarh fort to the clock tower. This will take you through the blue houses, the cane workers, the painters, the pottery section, the souvenir section, the vegetable, fruit and grocery market and finally to the clock tower where the rest of the market thrives. Here, you can buy handicrafts, locally made embroidered cloth, local attire, spices, Jodhpuri shoes, scarves, carpets and lots more. Even if you are not into shopping, this place is ideal to soak in the vibrant atmosphere and the rich colors on display.
Also visit National Handloom market which is strategically situated right next to the heavily frequented Janta Sweet Home. Here the items are all at a fixed price and you can’t bargain for your price. Be prepared to be tempted as Jodhpur offers gorgeous brightly coloured clothes as well as unique silver jewellery with tribal accents.
Ghanta Gar also known as the clock tower of Rajasthan is the Old City's famous landmark, stands at the heart of it and it's still working! The century-old clock tower is an old city landmark surrounded by the vibrant sounds, sights and smells of Sardar Market, which is marked by triple gateways at its northern and southern ends.
The narrow, winding lanes of the
old city spread out in all directions from here. Westward, you plunge into the
old city’s commercial heart, with crowded alleys and bazaars selling
vegetables, spices, sweets, silver and handicrafts.

The Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park was developed in 2006, with the aim of restoring the natural ecology of a large rocky wasteland area next to the Fort. Neglected for many years, it was overrun by an invasive thorny shrub. After the shrub was eradicated, over 80 native species of rock-loving plants from the Thar Desert were grown there. The Park extends across 70 hectares (around 200 acres) of rehabilitated land and has a walking trail. It's interesting to explore at different times of the year, as its foliage changes with the seasons.
