Star Beach, Phu Quoc: White powder sand that squeaks and squelches underfoot, luminous plankton in the water at night. Plastic deck chairs and tables crowded under thatched roofs by the tree-line, where barefoot waits for staff buzz about dishing out delicious seafood and cold beer. Bai Sao is one of the most popular beaches on Phu Quoc, but it manages to remain strangely deserted for much of the time. For many tourists staying at Long Beach, Bai Sao is the second beach, they see, often on day trips organized by their resort or hotel. The tours usually include snorkeling and fishing from a boat. Any fish that get caught will later be cooked up and eaten on the boat or on shore, along with the obligatory sea Anemone (a Vietnamese favorite), and plenty of Phu Quoc fish sauce. Despite their initial misgivings many tourists end up loving the sea anemones (and even the Phu Quoc fish sauce!) Give both of them a try because they might surprise you. If you think it would be neat to stay at Bai Sao long after the day-trippers have gone home, there are a few accommodation options. One of the cheapest is My LAN, a collection of rudimentary beach shacks and a simple restaurant

City Beach, Nha Trang: Loud and proud (say it!), the high-rise, the high-energy beach resort of Nha Trang enjoys a stunning setting: ringed by a necklace of hills, with a sweeping crescent beach, the city's turquoise bay is dotted with tropical islands. The shoreline has been given a huge makeover in recent years, with parks and sculpture gardens spread along the impressive promenade, while the streets inland reveal some quirky boutiques and a cosmopolitan array of dining options. As the restaurants wind down, the nightlife cranks up – Nha Trang is a party town at heart like any self-respecting resort should be. Forget the cafes of the capital; people play late in this town. If cocktails and shooters aren’t your flavors, there are some more sedate activities on offer. Try an old-school spa treatment with a visit to a mud bath or explore centuries-old Cham towers still standing in the center of town. This part of the country has its very own microclimate and the rains tend to come from October until December, a time best avoided if you are into lazing on the beach or diving in the tropical waters.

Hon Chong Beach, Nha Trang: The narrow granite promontory of Hon Chong offers fine views of the mountainous coastline north of Nha Trang and the nearby islands. The beach here has a more local flavor than Nha Trang Beach (but the accompanying refuse is unpleasant). Still, it's fun to watch the local kids do Acapulco-style swan dives into the ocean.

There are a reconstructed traditional run residence and a great cafe. A taxi here from the city center is around 30,000d.About 300m south of Hon Chong (towards Nha Trang) and a few dozen meters from the beach is tiny Hon Do (Red Island), which has a Buddhist temple on top. To the northeast is Hon Rua (Tortoise Island), which really does resemble a tortoise. The two islands of Hon Yen (Bird’s-Nest Island) are off in the distance to the east.

A well-known spot of scenic beauty, the Rock Hon Chong is not only attractive to visitors to Nha Trang but also no less allure to the local inhabitants, children as well as grownups who have made frequent visits to this place. In the vernacular, it means the "Husband Rock", the name given to one of the two rocks, the couple, the other one is the wife.

Ho Coc Beach, Ho Coc: With golden sands, rolling inland dunes and clear waters, this beach makes a tempting place to stop. There's one big hotel resort here, very much geared at the local market, but on weekdays it's still peaceful and you should have the beach largely to yourself. About 300m inland from the beach, Hotel Ven Ven is tasteful, with classy, well-appointed rooms in lush gardens. The restaurant here is good, if quite pricey, and strong on seafood (meals 60,000d upwards). The new road continues to wind along the coast, fringed by casuarinas and sand dunes, until it reaches Ho Coc Beach. Ho coach is a spellbinding, a 5km stretch of wonderful golden sand, dotted with coracles and large boulders, lapped by clear waters and backed by fine dunes. It’s still in the early stages of development, but you’ll be able to find a simple place to stay. As with most places around here, it gets crowded with day-trippers at the weekend but is practically deserted during the week. Ho Coc (Coc Lake) Beach with its turquoise water and primitive forests has become a popular tourist spot in the southern province of BA Ria-Vung Tau, attracting an increasing number of both day-trippers and overnighters.

After visiting the Nha Trang City and other famous destinations such as Hon Tre Islet, Hon Tam Ecotourism Park, Bai Dai Beach and Cham Towers, tourists should take a trip on National Highway 1 to the north to stop by Ninh Hoa which pledges to put a nice impression in tourists' eyes and memory by its stunning Doc Let Beach. Bai Tu Long is getting more and more popular among visitors wanting something newer and quieter than the overly touristy Halong bay. These days there are a lot of Halong cruises that include Bai Tu Long bay as a fixed destination during their cruising itineraries in response to the growing demand from tourists. Bai Tu Long bay offers the same impressive scenery of the sea and islands as Halong bay, but more pristine and less crowded. The water is very clear with tropic blue waves that are gentle enough for swimming and floating around. There are even changing huts on the beach along with a few bungalows here and there. There are also plenty of great seafood restaurants located on the coast so it's worth staying for dinner and enjoying fresh dishes served up from the vendors lining the beachfront. Weekends, however, tend to get busy. It’s also best to visit from April to August when swimming is the safest.

Cam An Beach, Hoi An: Cam An Beach, just north of its more popular counterpart, Cua Dai Beach is a pleasantly scruffy alternative to the tourist focused Cua Dai. Ramshackle bars dot the far less visited beach, seen as the local expats beach of choice. Cam An Beach is one of the few remaining stretches of beach that remains mostly unspoiled by development, offering clean blue sea, castaway restaurants, and bohemian beach bars. It flaunts not only the most fabulous island and mountain views that you don’t even need to climb off your lounger to enjoy but also some of the best seafood in Hoi An. And unlike many beach destinations, there is something to do whatever the season, whether you prefer some self-indulgent R&R or an action packed surfing safari. This beach now reigns as Hoi An’s main beach. This little slice of paradise is popular all year round with both locals and tourists alike. During the popular summer months, the local Vietnamese crowd comes here mostly for sunrise swims and sunset family beach barbecues, meaning that during the day it stays quiet.

Con Son Island, Con Dao Archipelago: The Côn ??o Islands are an archipelago of Bà R?a–V?ng Tàu Province, in the southeast region of Vietnam, and in a district of this province. The Con Dao Archipelago is one of the most beautiful and least developed destinations in Vietnam. There are beaches, forests, mountains, history, mythology, and a quiet town with crumbling French colonial villas on the seafront. There are two sides to the Con Dao Islands when you visit: one day spent swimming in the clear sea, walking upon white sand beaches, driving along deserted coast roads, and drinking cocktails on the seafront promenade; another spent visiting the prisons, learning about former inmates – many of whom are celebrated national heroes – and witnessing remnants of their forced labor, which caused hundreds of prisoners to die. The former is the future of the Con Dao Islands as a tropical paradise. The latter is its past as a penal colony, set up by the French colonial administration. Con Son is the largest of 15 islands in the Con Dao Archipelago, 80km from the mainland Mekong Delta region and 230km from Saigon.

Ninh Chu Beach, Ninh Chu: Southeast of Phan Rang, the giant bite-shaped bay of Ninh Chu is popular with Vietnamese tourists on weekends and holidays, but relatively tranquil the rest of the time. Some litter blights the scene, but the 10km-long beach is attractive and makes a quieter alternative to Phan Rang as a base for visiting the Cham ruins. New resort hotels are also springing up around the bay. Ninh Thuan province prides itself in several beautiful beaches, among which is the Ninh Chu Beach, with more than 10-km length and the shape of a nice crescent. Ninh Chu, located in Binh Son, Van Hai commune, Ninh Thuan province, is one of the top beaches of the Middle of Vietnam for every tourist, who comes here to explore an extremely different landscape. Ninh Chu is attractive with rows of people humming in the wind just nearby the beach as if they were whispering to the blue sea and singing about its fine sand dune - the daughter of the sea and sky. Thanks to this, you can lie down on the purple leaf carpet, without umbrella or bench, to restfully watch the sky. The sand is yellowish, quite clean and fine. The beach features a special shape of a crescent, with a very clean and the charming sea.
  • 25Ca Na, Southern Coast

Ca Na, Southern Coast: Given its proximity to the highway, CA Na is a more relaxing place than you would ever think. Hardly more than a wide spot in the road, this small town might even tempt you into staying overnight. Beyond the coracles parked along the beach, the water is invitingly clear and snorkeling is a possibility, though you’d be wise to ask locals where to wade in as the coral here is razor sharp. If you crave a little more solitude, a spine of decent dunes back up another good stretch of sand 2km south; a fifteen-minute walk east of the resort area is CA No village itself, characterized by the blue fishing boats typical of coastal Vietnam. Despite the influx of tourism, sea fishing is the region’s lifeblood and provides a living for a considerable percentage of the population. Fleets of fishing boats jostle for space in the cramped ports and estuaries of the coastal towns, waiting the turn of the tide; and fish and seafood drying along the road is a common sight. The fertile soil blesses the coastal plains with coconut palms, rice paddies, cashew orchards, sugar cane fields, vineyards and shrimp farms. One of the most commonly seen fruits here, especially around Phan Thiet, is the dragon fruit, which grows on the plants with distinctive, octopus-like tentacles.

Cholon District

Visit Cholon District: Ho Chi Minh City’s Cholon is Vietnam’s largest Chinatown with roots dating back to 1778; it’s also a place of great historical and cultural importance. Chinese minorities hid here from the Tay Son and subsequently had to rebuild the area twice following an attack with as many as 70% estimated to have died trying to escape on boats. Those who survived settled and began selling a variety of Chinese products. During the Vietnam, War Cholon was a thriving black market for US soldiers trading in American Army issue supplies. The area today is a popular site for those on the tourist trail and also attracts many Taiwanese and Chinese visitors. Colon is an interesting place to see classical Chinese architecture reminiscent of years gone by with plenty of Chinese restaurants. The Binh Tay market at the center is busy, crowded and messy with small aisles selling all manner of goods. This market sometimes disappoints tourists when compared to other markets in Ho Chi Minh as the products are not that varied, but the main draw to Cholon is not to shop, but to enjoy the authentic Chinese atmosphere that has existed here for hundreds of years. It’s a wonderful place to experience at night.
