Fansipan Overview

Located in the town of Sapa, Fansipan Peak is the highest point in Vietnam, standing tall at a height of 3,143 metres. The summit of the Fansipan mountain promises breathtaking views of the nearby valleys, dense forests and hill villages. While you climb towards the peak, you will encounter a wide range of flora and fauna on your way.

The rich biodiversity of Fansipan Mountain includes flora such as wildflowers, magnolias, orchids and rhododendrons. You might also spot fauna like the endangered langurs, gibbons, snow leopards and sun bears. 

While hiking to the peak, you will come across a fancy walkway which is decorated with 18 bronze statues. A major attraction at Fansipan Mountain that you should not miss is the 21-metre-tall statue of Buddha.

Next to the statue, there is a beautiful monastery named, Bich Van Zen Monastery where you can learn about Buddhist culture and admire its unique architecture. Additionally, there is a stupa which has 11 stories and holds major religious significance for the locals.

While exploring all this, you can take some rest at the gorgeous Cafe du Soleil and enjoy a cup of coffee while admiring the breathtaking views.

How To Reach

By Cable Car & Monorail: To reach Fansipan Peak you will need to do a break journey, including a monorail and a cable car ride. From Sapa, you will need to take a monorail which will drop you off at the Fansipan Legend Cable Car Station in approximately 10 minutes.

From there, hop into a cable car and enjoy a 15-minute scenic ride to Mount Fansipan. The cable car has a capacity of around 15-20 people and offers mesmerising panoramic views of the surrounding valleys.

Take a Cable Car & monorail

If you are under a time constraint or simply do not wish to trek to the peak of Mount Fansipan, then there are other exciting options for you. You can enjoy a break journey to reach the peak by taking a monorail followed by a cable car ride. It is a fun journey, taking approximately an hour and offering breathtaking views of the entire town.

It is one of the most convenient, time efficient and popular ways of reaching the summit. You can take a monorail from the town of Sapa which will drop you off at the Fansipan Cable Car station. Once you reach the station, you can enjoy a cable car ride of approximately 15 minutes to reach your final destination.

Admire the Buddha statues

 Fansipan Mountain houses two remarkable statues of Buddha. The oldest one is the giant Bodhisattva Statue which is situated on top of a peak, overlooking the mountain. You have to climb a long staircase to reach the statue. However, once you reach there, the stunning view makes all the effort worth it. The latest edition is the Amitabha Buddha statue. It is a 21-metre-tall bronze statue which was built in 2005. The base of the statue is a prayer hall where you can meditate. In front of this giant statue, there is a beautiful waterfall built in between the split staircase.

Trek to the summit

 A trek to the summit of Fansipan Mountain is truly an unparalleled experience. It is a challenging trek of a minimum of 2-3 days. There are several routes for this trek and you can choose the one depending on your preferences and itinerary. Sin Hai is the shortest route that takes approximately 9 hours to complete the trek. Tram Ton Pass is the most popular route, taking around 2 days to reach the peak.

The lesser-known route is the Cat Cat route which takes 3 days to complete this trek. Make sure that you have the required physical condition for this trek. Carry adequate trekking gear like hiking shoes, rain gear, first-aid and flashlight.
