What can be more alluring for a shopper or a tourist to Jaipur than the streets overflowing with the most creative and colourful ware that you can only imagine! ‘Kundan’ jewellery is made locally in Jaipur and is one of the most worn pieces of jewellery in the world. Appreciated for its aesthetic appeal and sheer beauty, Kundan necklaces are worn by brides and women the world over to adorn traditional attire.Shopping in Jaipur is one of the best things to do in Jaipur.

Add to this the exotic ‘blue pottery’ that is the hallmark of Jaipur, that is decorated with bird and animal motifs and delicately crafted and coloured with exotic blue ‘dye’. These items of ashtrays, vases and coasters make for great show pieces and are gifted across the world today.

Batik paintings are another rare work of art found in Jaipur. The paintings are done on cotton textiles in vibrant colours and decorations are made on dyed fabric. These can be framed and make great gifts and you can see visitors buying these by the hordes in the bazaars of Jaipur. The city is also well known for  its ‘tie and dye’, locally known as ‘Bandhej’ fabrics and block printed bed spreads and wall hangings all in an array of the most vibrant colours! Perhaps nothing can identify Jaipur more than the oft worn ‘mojaris’ that are a rage among the youth and old alike. This colourful foot wear is sported by teenagers across India and made intrinsically in the most flamboyant colours! A visit to Jaipur is indeed incomplete until one picks up at least a couple of pairs of mojaris to go with your traditional outfits. The embroidery and intricate bead work on the mojaris make them sheer art for the feet and are becoming a rage abroad too!

When you walk through Jaipur you will find that entire streets and lanes are given out to traders to showcase and sell their ware! The state government does everything in its capacity to promote trade of brassware, stoneware,  glassware and sandalwood carvings that is unique to the culture of this city. Jaipur is equally well known for its carvings and portraits and is a melting pot of all kinds of craft.

One of the famous streets that sell antiques and other semi-antiques is near the Hawa Mahal. Here you can find the famous Jaipuri quilts, each of which weighs a few kilograms. These are hand-woven and made in vibrant colours with intricate embroidery and is a masterpiece in itself. Most of the shopping in Jaipur is done in and around the centre of the city itself. Being a shopper’s paradise there is hardly any part of this city that is not in some way linked to trade and commerce. Here artisans and craftsmen pass on their craft through generations and are held in high esteem in society.

Jaipur’s stone and marble industry is also very well -known and the marble is got from the marble mines of Makrana. It is said that marble was procured from the very same quarry to build the famous Taj Mahal.

If you take a stroll around the city, don’t forget to stop by at the main shopping areas that are Johari Bazar, Bapu Bazar, Tripolia Bazar and Nehru Bazar that are all bustling with activity. Of these the Johari Bazar is where you will find jewellery and precious and semi-precious stones. M I road is also an important shopping hub.

Tripolia Bazar and Chaura Rasta are the places you can go to for world famous textiles and utensils and other trinkets. Sturdy ironware utensils can also be found in this bazaar. Here in the gullies and side lanes you can see artisans as they polish and embellish their craft and is a joy to behold.
