The architectural design of Jawahar Kala Kendra was laid out by the renowned MIT graduate Mr Charles Correa. The structure of this building is similar in appearance to the nine grids of our solar system.

Theatres of Jawahar Kala Kendra

The theatre at Jawahar Kala Kendra hosts frequent performances by artists, students and scholars that make for an engaging platform of profound creativity.

It is constructed out of three theatres – 1 open and two closed. Most of the youngsters come to the open theatre and perform or act out their dramas, dance forms or other culturally eloquent forms of acting. 

The other two theatres are called Rangayan and Krishnan. Rangayan is mostly a haven for modern plays and playwrights debuting their dramas on-stage. On the other hand, Krishnayan hosts various Rajasthani festivals inviting artists from all across India.

This theatre hosts distinct performances in varying styles and outcome and a major tourist attraction of Jaipur. 

Kala Galleries, Exhibitions and Museum

The Alankar Museum is one of the most popular museums in Rajasthan and is situated within the peripherals of Jawahar Kala Kendra. They have a repertoire of music that stirs the soul, artworks and sculptors decorating these galleries and museums, enhancing every instrument required to produce a masterpiece. 

The exhibitions held portray exquisite craftsmanship and blue pottery items available on sale.  

How To Reach


Jawahar Kala Kendra is situated in Jhalana, Doongri which is about 8 km from Jaipur. This distance can easily be covered using a hired cab or taxi. However, they may be comparatively more expensive, yet the most convenient options. Another popular form of commutation is via auto-rickshaws. Do not forget to haggle as they are likely to charge you twice the actual amount.

The best time to visit Jawahar Kala Kendra is from September to December. This is the autumn season in Jaipur, and the city is magnificent in appearance. The heat of the sun is soft on the skin, thus making the afternoons ideal for sightseeing.

However, the temperatures may go as low as 4 degrees Celsius with cool evenings, so it is advisable to carry warm clothes. 

Summer in Jaipur begins in May and ends in July. The climate during summers are extremely hot and dry, thus making the scorching heat of the sun unbearable.

The interiors of the Jaipur Kala Kendra may provide relief for a while, but the outside environment is constantly hot.

Monsoon often comes bearing heavy and unpredictable rainfall between July and September.
