Which are the best places to visit in Ajmer?

1. Ajmer Sharif Dargah: Located right at the end of a desolate hill, Ajmer Sharif Dargah is one of India’s most noticeable pilgrimage centers and one of the popular places to visit in Ajmer which is visited by devotees of all religions.

The dargah is said to be the shrine of Sufi saint Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti was built by the Mughal Emperor Humayun, thus advocating the rich Mughal Architecture. Wrapped by an aura of tranquility, this holy place urges one to embark on a way of spirituality. Built-in different stages, the gate with silver doors outlines the entrance to the location. One can spot two gigantic cauldrons in the inner yard of the shrine. These containers have a capacity of 2240 kg and 4480 kg and are utilized during special occasions to cook sweet delights like Kheer.

2. Ana Sagar Lake: 
The dazzling Ana Sagar Lake is a magnificent artificial lake built by Maharaja Anaji between 1135 to 1150 Advertisement, the predecessor of Maharaja Prithviraj Chauhan. This lake is best visited during the sunsets when the views are exceptionally marvelous to look at. Near the lake is the Daulat Bagh, a garden set out by Emperor Jahangir.

Emperor Shah Jahan later included five pavilions, called the Baradari, among the garden and the lake. An island lies within the middle of the lake which can be visited by hiring boats or water scooters.

3. Adhai Din ka Jhonpra: 
Adhai Din ka Jhonpra is a Masjid built by Qutub-ud-Din-Aibak, the first Sultan of Delhi in AD 1199. Originally built as a Sanskrit college located on the slope of the Taragarh hill, later it was seized by Mohammed of Ghori and converted the building into a mosque by adding a seven-arched wall covered with Islamic calligraphy in front of the pillared hall.

Rumor has it that this Indo-Islamic architectural site was built in two and a half days and that’s where it gets its name. It’s an exquisite piece of architecture, with soaring arches, pillars, and an excellent curved screen, largely built from pieces of Jain and Hindu sanctuaries.

4. Akbar Palace And Museum: 
Akbar’s royal residence, built in 1570 AD as the place where he and his troops stayed in Ajmer whenever he visited the Ajmer Sharif Dargah. One of the finest tourist places in Ajmer, the palace houses a Government museum found in the Dil-e-Haram Gardens that grandstands several aspects of Mughal and Rajput lifestyle, and has a collection of rich relics, medieval arsenal, stone sculptures and exquisite works of art of the Maharajas of Bharatpur on display. The large black marble statue of Goddess Kali situated within the palace is very popular.

5. Nareli Jain Temple: 
Situated on the edges of Ajmer, this wonderful marble edifice is a culminate mix of modern and conventional structural styles with angular and strikingly appealing designs. The temple is situated on the ranges of Aravali Mountains with 24 miniature temples (Chaubisi) lined up on the hill above.

These 24 temples symbolize the Tirthankaras of Jain also called 24 Jainalay. The area makes the views from the temple more scenic. Also known as the Shri Gyanodaya Tirth Kshetra, it is an imperative pilgrimage site for the Digambara Jains.

6. Clock Tower: 
Ajmer is a city that has seen a major influence from the British in its past. Located just opposite the railway station in Ajmer, the landmark is an imposing clock tower that was built back in 1887.

The Clock Tower was constructed to mark Queen Victoria's Silver Jubilee which is why it is also known as Victoria Jubilee Clock Tower. Built in the Indo-Islamic style, it is well-known for its structural magnificence and is a very amazing illustration of British design.

7. Taragarh Fort: 
Taragarh is considered as the first hill fort of Asia and was built by Ruler Ajaypal Chauhan in 1100 Ad on the pinnacle of 800 foot high Taragarh Hill overlooking Ajmer. Also called Star Fort, it has been known to be home to the famous Chauhan dynasty rulers counting Prithviraj Chauhan.

The entrance to the fort is marked by three gateways, followed by tunnels and many battlements in conjunction with ramparts. These exhibits are also of great interest to the visitors, such as the famous Grand Canyon or the Garbha Gunjan. The Rani Mahal, which was built only for the wives and concubines of the rulers of those times.

8. Mayo College Museum: 
Housed in Jhalwar House, Mayo College Museum is considered the largest school museum in the world. Also known as Eton of the East, Mayo College was established in 1875 AD by Richard Bourke, the 6th Earl of Mayo.

Mayo College is one of India’s oldest independent boarding schools where the curriculum was designed for boys from well to do families of rulers and nobles. Spread over 18 rooms on the campus, the entities of the repository have all been donated by old students, teachers, guardians or the well-wishers. The collection included ancient paintings, sculptures, photos and coins. The natural history segment has stuffed birds and butterflies as well.

3. Embrace the Jain Temple - Soniji ki Nasiyan: 
Ajmer Jain Temple or Soniji Ki Nasiyan is a Digambar Jain temple dedicated to Lord Rishabhdev (Agnidev). Built in the late 19th century, this temple is tallied among the wealthiest temples in India.

The sanctuary is made of red sandstone which is why it is also called the Red Temple. Its main chamber, Swarna Nagari (City of Gold), is suitably named so because of the several gold-plated wooden figures it houses within its walls. The city of Ayodhya has been carved out of wood and plated with 1000 kg of gold within the main chamber.
