    In Sanskrit language, Gokarna stands for “cow’s ear” and is also famous as the temple town of Karnataka. In order to reach Gokarna by train, one can board a train from any metropolitan station to Kumta which is 36 KM from Gokarna and is the nearest railway station. Gokarna is an amazing location for backpackers who are searching for inexpensive accommodation and food. The locals speak Kannada, can also understand English and respond to it which makes Gokarna an incredible location for people from around the world.

    The beach is shaped in a way that it appears to be the auspicious symbol ‘OM’ in the Devanagari script and is named after it. Om beach is one of the pristine and happening beaches in Gokarna for the plethora of water sports and activities that people cherish here. 

    From the bumpy banana ride to the speedy jet ski ride, from beachside trekking on the hilly terrain to spotting Dolphin in the middle of the sea; OM beach is spot on. The beach can be enjoyed between the two coves that make the shape of OM and is loaded with shacks, huts, and cafes for a lazy vacation.

  • 03Paradise Beach

    Fondly known as the ‘full moon beach,’ Paradise beach justifies its name. In order to reach this beach, one has to take a motorboat from OM beach or half moon beach or has to trek down from the half moon beach. 

    Paradise beach stretches around 150 meters in length and is an ideal destination for swimming and camping. Around 70 percent of the beach is covered in rocks which makes some picture perfect elevation points for photography.

    Location: Gokarna, Karnataka, India

    Best Time to visit: Sunrise and sunset during the winter and spring season.

    Beaches are awesome but a thick and lush jungle overlooking an infinite stretch of Arabian Ocean is ecstatic. Half moon beach is such an experience where you get to engage in myriads of activities like swimming, kayaking, paddle boats, trekking, camping etc. 

    Half moon is one of the beaches in Gokarna which you can also walk up to it in a scenic trek starting from Gokarna beach and cover the famous five Gokarna beaches in one go. This beach derives its name from the shape of it which resembles a half moon.

  • 05Kudle Beach

    Kudle Beach

    Kudle beach is a long isolated stretch of sea and sand that is perfect for a solitude seeker. It is serene and cut off from the touristy stretch, mostly flocked with foreign travellers and backpackers who search for solace. 

    The beach is pretty quintessential for swimming and basking in the sea, the water is safe for splashing and diving but the solitary existence of the beach makes it a little risky as it is devoid of lifeguards with a very minimal crowd. It is hardly 10 minutes boat ride from Om beach and 15 minutes from the Gokarna beach.  

    Location: Kudle Beach Rd, Gokarna, Karnataka 581326

    Best Time to visit: November to February is the peak season, however, the locals pitch up temporary huts, shacks, and other makeshift arrangements by the beach from October till March.

  • 06Nirvana Beach

    Nirvana Beach

    The entrancing environs of Nirvana beach make you feel like you are in an unreal setting. The beach has a very long shoreline and you hardly find fellow travellers around as it is little off the beaten. If you are travelling to Nirvana beach, you are suggested to carry food and water as there are no such facilities. 

    Swimming is great sport to indulge in but due to the absence of lifeguard and much civilization, you must avoid going deep as the ocean has strong currents. Also, you can visit some of the best places in Gokarna.

  • 07Baada Beach

    Baada Beach

    Baada beach falls while walking down the trail from Kirki to Gokarna. It is the cleanest beach in Gokarna, also because it is located remotely around 10 KM away from the Kumta bus stand. The beach has some boulders in the middle and is encircled by hillocks on two sides. While you stroll around, it feels like a private beach as it is crowd free for as far as you can see with some huts and cottages outlying the shore.

    It is one of the clean and scanty beaches in Gokarna that is a must on everyone’s bucket list who is visiting Gokarna. Gokarna beaches reward you with surreal vistas of a long golden expanse of sand and rippling blue water and Small Hell beach is just another marvel in this quaint town that is unadulterated with no mundane yet. 

    While you race up to the small hell cliff, it overlooks this beautiful beach and it is an impeccable sight to behold.

  • 09Belekan Beach

    Take a boat ride from Gokarna beach to reach Belekan beach and if you are lucky, you might spot a Dolphin or few. The beach is located next to Moonlight beach and is one of the remotest beaches in Gokarna where you must take boat driver’s number in order to avoid any chances of getting stranded on the beach.
