Shiva Cave, Gokarna

Another one of the famous Gokarna tourist places with religious significance is the Uppin Ganpati Temple. Also known as Vinayakar Temple, this beautiful temple has one of the most stunning architectures in Gokarna.Formerly, this temple used to be dedicated to Lord Shiva, and it is after the statue of Ganesha was brought here from Kumta, that the temple started to be dedicated to Lord Ganesh. The temple also has a main hall in addition to an arch. Locally called Gogarbha (cow’s womb), the Shiva Cave temple sits on a hillside, away from the bustling beaches. Inside, you will find a sacred Shivalinga that devotees worship and meditate upon. Legends say the linga once belonged to Ravana, who was tricked into placing it here and made the cave a sacred site.The cave itself is dark and mysterious, with hundreds of bats calling it home, so carrying a torch is a smart idea when you visit. Despite its eerie feel, the calm and spiritual atmosphere makes it a peaceful spot to sit and reflect. The cave is also a short trek from Kudle Beach.

Also known as Full Moon Beach, Paradise Beach is one of the most secluded and scenic stretches of coastline in Gokarna. Spanning about 150 metres, nearly 70% of the beach is covered with naturally carved rocks, while the rest is lined with soft white sand. Compared to the other busy beaches, this beach does not have many commercial activities, which makes it one of the most scenic spots in the town, for relaxation and peace. Since you can only reach here by a short trek from Half Moon Beach or a boat ride from Om Beach, the vibe on this beach is calm and untouched. Moreover, you can swim close to the shore, camp under the stars, and soak in the peaceful surroundings of the beach. Many travellers enjoy setting up tents, cooking their meals, and watching the mesmerising sunrise or sunset. If you are lucky, you might even witness the magical glow of bioluminescence at night.

Among the most famous beaches, Om Beach is one of the top places in the town for every traveller. True to its name, the beach is shaped like the sacred Hindu symbol “Om,” formed by two natural crescents. Nirvana Beach is another one of the hidden places of the town that feels almost untouched and wonderfully peaceful. The mornings here are calm with stunning sunrises, while evenings bring magical sunsets that paint the sky in brilliant shades.Although you will not find water sports here, the beach is ideal for swimming, sunbathing, or enjoying a friendly game of volleyball. Families often bring along picnics, and it is common to see fishermen’s boats drifting by in the distance. On one end, the rocky outcrops are fun to climb and give you a beautiful view of the shoreline.
