  • 08Hiking in Krabi

    When it comes to thrilling and adventurous sports in Krabi then one just cannot miss hiking in Krabi. The most challenging and difficult trail is the Ngorn Nak Mountain, a difficult terrain but opted by many interested hikers. Its a 3.7km walk to the summit with some steep parts which needs to be covered carefully.



    The summit is around 1640 feet. Apart from this there are other hiking trails in Krabi like Ao Nanag, Dragon Crest mountail trail, walk around Phi Phi, Ban Ko Phi Phi and many others. There may be charges for hiking in few trails but the Naka Mountain is within the national park and there are absolutely no charges to hike the trail. One should carry all necessary equipments and if there is no experience of hiking then one should do the same after fetching training from the specified agencies.

  • 10River Rafting in Krabi

    A very recent yet popular water sport activity introduced in Krabi is the river rafting. It is offered by some of the local companies which use the rapids of Songprak River for the sport. Based in Phang Nga province this river is only at a distance of 1.5 hours drive from Ao Nang.



    The run for river rafting is about 5-7 km in length and the difficulty level varies from grade 2 to 4. The sport is not much difficult but undoubtedly it’s a pure adrenalin activity and suitable for all except for small kids, pregnant women and people having back problems.

    The longer course of 7km is the more difficult one and should be opted by trained individual. In most cases the river rafting tour is combined with other activities like elephant trekking, safari camping etc.The average cost of these tours differs from one place to another but still approximately it ranges from 1000 Baht to 2500 Baht.

    Another popular sport that attracts the travellers of Krabi is Tubing in the river. Like every other sport tubing has its own difficult levels but under proper guidance and trained individuals from the agencies this sport can be enjoyed by every individual. To enjoy beautiful nature and thrilling experience on the river this sport is unparallel.

    For tubing the best time in Krabi is from May to November where the climate is wet and the rivers remain flooded. January to April are drier months and not suitable for tubing. Majorly Ao Nang area, Phang Nga is popular places for tubing. For the sport the minimum eligible age is 6 years old and maximum age is 60. Life jackets, helmets and other gears for the sport are given by sport agencies only.

    For the lovers of game fishing, Krabi can act as a paradise with multiple opportunities. There are long tail boats which allow two persons to go fishing with all arrangements. One can sit back and relax, sun bathe in excellent ambience and enjoy the spectacular scenery.



    The best places for fishing are majorly closer to the main 4 islands near Ao Nang. This is about a 15 min boat ride from the main bank. Usually the fishing boat suppliers in these areas are itself fishermen and they know both the sport as well as the waters extremely well.

    So for them it is easy to guide the tourist in the waters as well provides tips for better fishing to catch some mackeral, grouper, barracuda etc. Night fishing is also available but for that one needs to pre book the boat way before the ride.

Wat Tham Sua

Bida Nok

Khao Khanap

The two limestone peaks of Khao Khanap Nam are definitely a sight worth seeing. Located along the Krabi River, the peaks sit side by side as the gateway to the region, each jutting out some 100 meters from the water. There’s no admission fee to visit, although you will need to pay for your boat ride to reach the locality.



Highlights
: There are several caves inside Khao Khanap Nam with impressive clusters of stalactites and stalagmites to marvel at and explore. The mangrove forests surrounding Khao Khanap Nam also make this the perfect area for canoeing or renting a boat for a leisurely afternoon on the water.

Getting There: The only way to get to Khao Khanap Nam is by boat from the Chao Fa Pier in Krabi. It is a 15 minute scenic ride by long-tail boat.

Ko Phi Phi

Ko Phi Phi, a small archipelago of six islands is the most beautiful and widely popular tourist destination in Andaman. Chicken Island

Chicken Island also known as Koh Kai, KohGai or Koh Hua Khwan derive  this hilarious name from its unusual shape that resembles the head and neck of a chicken. Crowned in the south of Poda and Tup Islands, this timeless beauty is just 30 minutes away from the coast of Krabi.One impressive feature about this island is that during low tides, a sandbar emerges from the water which connects Chicken Island to neighbouring tiny islands of KohMor and Tup. Koh Hai

Encircled by coral and clear waters, densely forested KoHai is the most developed of the Trang Islands. The long blonde windswept beach on the eastern coast spills into tranquil waters with a sandy bottom. With no indigenous population, a bunch of attractive resorts has the whole island to themselves.


Things to Do: The Island offers an endless supply of diving and snorkelling activities and leisurely resorts.

Getting There:Long-tail and speedboat transfers is the easiest way to travel to the island.

Phra Nang Beach

Phra Nang beach is part of a small peninsula located between the city of Krabi and Ao Nang beach. Phra nang beach is also beside Railay beach which is accessible only by boat due to the high limestone cliffs cutting off mainland access. There is the famous "Princess Cave" or Tham Phra Nang Nok in Phra Nang beach. It is believed by local fishermen to be the home of a mythical sea princess. 



Activities: Phra nang beach is so spectacular that you can just lie there and soak in the sun. If you are adventurous it is possible to hike to the top of the headland to get spectacular views of the entire area. Swimming and snorkeling can also be enjoyed off this pristine, white sandy beach.

Known For: There is shrine built inside the limestone cave which is dedicated to an ancient fertility goddess. Inside the limestone cave is a collection of strange phallic symbols, offerings and objects believed to help with fertility. Local fishermen still leave offerings although it's now becoming a local tourist attraction.

Mor Island

Based close to Chicken Islands, Mor Island or Koh Mor is a small island in the Andaman Sea in Thailand. Powder coated sun kissed beaches and exceptional scenic beauty is the prime attraction in this small yet beautiful island. The cascading blue waters and lovely fishes floating near the beaches also incur equal amount of interest among the travelers. Poda Island

Koh Poda is a small island with breathtaking scenic beauty based on the western corners of Ao Nang. A picture perfect tropical island showcasing nature extravaganza, this is undoubtedly a huge miss if not visited. Stretching for not a bit than 1 kilometer in diameter, the beautiful island remains fringed by turquoise blue waters and has a vast treasury of glistening white sands and amazing coral reefs that are simply mesmerizing.



Things to do: The island can easily be visited on a day tour from Ao Nang or the Railay Beaches. One can have a wide range of beach activities here but popular sports here are swimming and snorkeling. A visitor fee needs to be paid while visiting the island as the same comes under the part of Mu KohPhi Phi National Park

Maya Bay, Koh Phi Phi Ley

Maya Bay is most famously known for it’s feature in the famous movie starring Leonadio Di Caprio where they escape to a “Paradise-like Island”, Paradise it definitely is. Surrounded by crystal blue-green waters and hidden behind three towering cliffs this is a beach that one has to visit. Due to it’s popularity it’s always crowded with hoards of day trippers. 



Activities: Snorkeling and diving are excellent throughout the bay, large underwater boulders are encrusted with coral and brightly coloured fish are numerous. Visibility is excellent. Sea kayaking is also popular. Kayaking tour boats come into the bay and moor while letting clients explore.

Best Time to Visit: The best time to visit Maya Bay is between November and April during the high season when seas are calm and access to the bay is easy. Rough seas from May to October may hinder access but rarely deny entry.

Price: There is a national park entry fee of 200 Baht.

Si Bo Ya Island

Being an ideal getaway from the hustle of city life, Si Bo Ya Island is one of the famous islands near Krabi. Being essentially an abode of the island fisherman, many tourists come here to learn more about the culture, facility, living conditions of these fishermen. The island is close to both Jum Island and Pu Island. White beech, blue waters, some rocky terrains and an excellent relaxing ambience make this island so popular near Krabi. The long stretched beaches are ideal for sand walk with friends and loved ones. Swimming is not an advisable sport here since the water is quite cloudy but however one can obviously enjoy with activities like Sea Canoeing & Kayaking, Cycling & Mountain Biking. Yung Island or Mosquito Island

One of the remotest parts of Phi Phi islands, Mosquito Island is one of the isolated islands which consist of a limestone cliff rock which is around 700 meters in height. The island is divided into two small beaches and both the beaches remains filled with mosquitoes during sunset and hence the name. Beautiful white sandy beaches and soft corals enhance the beauty of the island.



Swimming is not suggested here as black tip sharks are common in the northern cove. Snorkeling is done on the south eastern shores whereas diving is done best on the north eastern tip

Mu Koh Hong

Mu Koh Hong is not a single island but a cluster of limestone islands which includes popular islands like Lao Riam Pakka, Lao or Sa Ka Lao La Ding and not to forget the southern big island Lao Li Pe. The major attractions of these islands are its pictorial beauty consisting of white sandy beaches, amazing coral reefs, mesmerizing ambience, pleasant climate and crystal blue waters. Yao Yai Island
