The Colaba Causeway is actually known as Shahid Bhagat Singh Road and is located between Old Woman’s Island and Colaba. In fact, it is the main road that connects the two places. The road is Mumbai’s cultural destination and reminds you of the country’s colonial past because of old buildings dating back to the British times.
The road was constructed sometime between 1835-1838 when Sir Robert Grant supervised its construction. The road had been primarily constructed to avoid accidents as people crossed from Old Woman’s Island to Colaba on a boat.
Nowadays, the Colaba Causeway is famous for being the shopping hub of Mumbai and for having some of the most popular restaurants here such as Cafe Mondegar, the Taj Mahal Hotel, and landmarks such as the Afghan Church, Sassoon Dock, and the gateway of India etc.
Come here in the evenings to enjoy a great time in the cafes and shopping in some of the well-known shopping centres in the area. You can find everything from furniture, accessories, apparels, cosmetics, to perfumes and handbags etc here.
