About Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sangrahalaya

The Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sangrahalaya is a popular attraction in Mumbai because Gandhiji came and stayed in the two-storeyed building called Mani Bhavan during 1917-1934 whenever he visited Mumbai. The building has now been converted into a museum that now reminds the country of its struggle for freedom from the British rule.

During the period Gandhiji used to come and stayed in Mumbai, he introduced the concept of satyagraha in the country, hence this period saw his rise as a freedom fighter and saw him gain immense popularity. The place is particularly famous for Gandhiji was arrested here by the British in 1932, from the wing of the building that he occupied.

There is a room, a library, a picture gallery, and a terrace that Gandhiji used in mani Bhavan that people flock in to see. The library now houses as many as 40000 books and periodicals. There is also an auditorium where films on Gandhiji’s life and times are showcased on a regular basis.
