[Spot one-horned rhinos and ride elephants at Kaziranga National Park]

Your trip should be the operator’s money bank. If you are paying him, then you must get the services that are worth the price. Adequate research is the key to your destination. Therefore evaluate your contacts neatly and assure that the Indian wildlife safari tour operator you have chosen carries out the best of the safaris in the area you plan to visit.

How do I plan it on a budget

    A jeep safari

    • Locate a professional Indian wildlife safari planner. You can find many online. You can also travel locally to the area in advance to plan for a trip, where you can get more access to planners.
    • Keep a tight but flexible budget
    • Plan in advance, much before the season you plan to visit.
    • Research well, do not just take the word for it. Always go for a second opinion.
    • Do not go for extremely commercial trips
    • Purchase and carry your supplies with you before the trip. Buying anything on the reserve could be more expensive.
    • Travel off season. You get cheaper tickets and there is the benefit of a lesser crowd.

    What to carry

    Wildlife Safari in India

    1. A good digital camera or video camera

There is a lot of excitement is taking back all the beautiful memories back home. Your camera should do the trick. Do not let a few bytes of memory storage ruin your journey. Carry a memory card with the best amount of memory it can offer. You will get rid of your fear of the running out of memory and you can capture as many shots as you want. Keep a spare one with you in case the one you have malfunctions.

[Go on a wildlife tour in Kerala and experience nature like never before]

Let your camera give you the joy of taking the memories back home but let it not ruin the fun for you. Do not be so engrossed with snapping pictures that you forget to experience the sight yourself. You will not have a majestic lion roaring its wits off every day before you. Feel the moment before you capture it.

    2. A journal

Yes, the experience of coming to close counters with the animals in the wild is extremely enthralling and superficial but a few years down the lane, you will remember only the highlights of the experience. Carrying a journal and penning down the experiences of each day will keep every detail fresh in your mind. When you read through, it will take you back to that day even after several years of the visit.

    3. Clothes to suit the weather

Assure that the clothes you carry will protect you even in the harshest of the weather conditions. The time of visit will give the right details of the weather. Keep your research in hand at all circumstances. The heat of the day and the temperature at night are two different aspects in such areas where the forests cover most of the places. The day might be pleasant but the nights can get quite chilly. While you are on safari, wear shorts so that you are comfortable. Keep all your money and valuables safe, it is recommended that you do not carry excessive valuables along.

    4. Binoculars

The whole trip would be an experience that is unforgettable. There are several things to enjoy and experience, a few things could be happening away from your sight like say, a pack of monkeys chattering on the top of tree, a binocular can get you closer to the scene so that nothing goes missing towards the end of your trip.

    5. Medications

Do understand that you are away from the vicinity of the city and from medical help as well. Carry your medical kit with tablets for fever, cold, malaria, diarrhea etc. Your tour operator can give you some advice about the pills you will have to pack along with the other items.

    1. Off season jungle safari

Most of the nature enthusiasts recommend going on wildlife during off season that is basically to avoid crowds and to cut down the travelling expenses. It is always better to take the safaris in the drier part of the year as the paths would be clear and there would not be a necessity to take the closed or AC cars. Moreover dry weather also means that the mosquitoes and the bugs are away. At this time of the year the animals are more active you can therefore experience a totally different side of the activities.

    2. Avoid visiting the popular spots

It is always recommended to avoid the most popular spots, for you will end up stretching your neck to a better view of the scenes. Those places will be extremely crowded and therefore the animals would not be any active either. You could enjoy the drive through the calmer places, it is more refreshing and you may just see more activity among the animals, what would not otherwise available in the popular spots.

    3. Plan your number of days for a wildlife safari in India

You need to plan your trip well. The number of days for a complete Indian wildlife safari tour experience totally depends on the place of visit. You can take up tour packages that could last for a day or up to 18 to 20 days. The National parks have an array of tour packages that will interest you.

[Experience nature by getting up close to animals and camping outdoors in Corbett and Rishikesh]

We recommended a least of 2 to 3 days of wild life safari in the most popular destinations of the country. In the case of the small scale National Park like Bannerghatta in Bangalore, a day would suffice.

    4. Travel in a group

Always travel in a group whenever you take up a wildlife safari. It is safer and while you travel in groups there is company to share your experiences with. Moreover, you will have each other to help in case of any problem.

    5. Plan in advance

Plan your trip at least a month in advance. Make a checklist of the items that need to go in your bag and keeping checking them or things you might have missed. Keep in touch with your operators; assure they are well informed about your arrival in their zone for the safari and they have made the necessary arrangements for your accommodation.

[Spot tigers and experience elephant riding in Bandhavgarh]

Keep all the above mentioned points in mind, you will be in an Indian wildlife safari, far away from the city limits, there should not be an event wherein you will have to travel back. It will spoil the mood of the trip completely. So plan it so well that you will have nothing but good memories once you are done with you wildlife safari.

    • Do not make any noise that the animals are not used to or you could scare them away. Keep your mp3 players, loud horns away. Do not get into the spirit of driving fast either; you might crush the small animals passing by. You will enjoy all the more if you are quiet.
    • Do not wear bright colors, the animals are more accustomed to the colors of the forests. Wear outfits of subtle colors like Khaki or brown or dull green, even bright green is not suggested. You are venturing into their world; follow some of the norms that the animals have been living with.
    • Do not feed the animals. The animals have been living with the nature and they will be able to support themselves. Food fed to them will upset their habits and health.
    • Do not litter. Littering pollutes their environment and the habitat they live in. Do not throw plastic bags, tetra packs or the likes of the sort in the jungle. Besides making the place unhygienic, it will also ruins the natural habitat of the animals. Dispose them properly.
    • Do not pluck flowers or plants nor attempt to touch any animals either.
    • Smoking and Flash Photography in prohibited in the forests. Do not be the reason for an unnecessary fire in the forests.
    • The drivers are supposed to follow a particular route and follow a speed limit. Do not force them to go against the rules put forth by the forest officials.
    • Do not enter the prohibited areas of the reserve. They are protected for a reason, do not mess around.
    • Most important tip of all - Enjoy every moment of your trip to an Indian wildlife safari tour!
