  • Dandeli is a tourist location and a town located in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. The town consists of people from states like Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala and other parts of the country. Official language spoken here is Kannada.

    In the early 1930’s the population of this place was quite low and people worked in forestry department and government saw mill. Till 1936, there was no school in this place and with the financial support of few esteemed men, they built a one room school underneath the hill. At that time British colonization was there and it was approved by British Government.

    This region gets great rainfall from August to November. Weather is mild here and it has a tropical highland climate. Dandeli is a natural habitat for wildlife, including tigers, leopards, black panthers, elephants, gaur, deer, antelopes, and bears. This city also didn’t escape from the industrialization and local volunteers made a group to address the issue with proper care to save the ecology.

    With the diversity of the population, many of the prominent festivals are celebrated here. This place provides quality education. Even though the literacy rates are quite high, due to lack of employment opportunities, people are forced to move elsewhere for their occupation.

This travel will consist of penetrating through dense and lush forests in open jeep for about 14 kilometers.   • 03Kayaking

    Kayaking is one of the water sport and important things to do in Dandeli. This is done solo on a moving body of water and a guide will be there to explain the details needed to do Kayaking. Make sure to wear life jackets and follow the instructions carefully by the expert. It is done on the water body where there will not be any waves or has mild waves.   • 05Mountain Biking

    Mountain Biking is also one of the adventure activities in Dandeli. Tourists who have a passion for adventure sports should try this at least once. Riding on the rough terrains with specially adapted mountain bikes will be a test of your skill. A guide will be accompanying you to tell the formalities of the journey. People can explore the vast region of flora and fauna along the ride. There won’t be any boring moment while riding and it will be entirely exciting.

    Among the various things to do in Dandeli, Coracle boat ride is also one of the most interesting activities to do. These are light weight boats that are used for river navigation. It is made up by tribal fishermen, for travelling from one place to another and also for their fishing activities. These boats are made up of bamboo and on the base of this coracle, they apply a water proofing of paste. Tourists can enjoy the tranquil of the pleasant atmosphere around to see a natural beauty around Dandeli.

    This boat can carry about three to five people at a time and ride on this will be a different experience for the tourists.   • 07Trekking

    Trekking, as always remembered from many generations is one of the most interesting activity in the woods. Moreover, with this thick forests, the visitors can explore the nature, wildlife, and birds. It is an adventurous activity in Dandeli forest, which is usually undertaken by the young tourists. It is one of the top things to do in Dandeli.  Several trekking routes in Dandeli and some activities are run by the forest department. The guided tour starts with a ride into the gated forest reserve. A 3-4 km downhill walk and 350 steps down will take you to the caves.

    Tourists can take a private vehicle inside the sanctuary, which is the preferred mode of transport, due to the undeveloped roads. Always wear proper shoes, as leeches are a big trouble during monsoon and winter months.   • 08Natural Jacuzzi Bath

    Natural Jacuzzi Bath is one of the most natural healing therapy in the Dandeli which attracts the tourists. Springs of water, aroma of flowers and woods around, the chirping of birds and the blue sky above provides a refreshing experience. The water which flows down from Supa Dam takes the shape of the river known as Kali and splashes the water on the black stones.     As any other hobby, bird watching can be done in Dandeli. It is one of the popular things to do in Dandeli.  Tourists will be amazed at the number of species of the birds present around Dandeli. It is the home to 4 of hornbills out of worlds 9 species. The massive variety of exotic birds found here, attracts tourists, birdwatchers and ecotourists from all over the world.   • 11Syntheri Rock

    Syntheri Rock is a massive limestone rock formed due to volcanic eruptions millions of years ago. The rock was named after an English woman, Cinthera who is believed to have discovered this place in the twentieth century. It is located in the dense forests of the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary in the Western Ghats and is a remarkable aberration of nature that has whipped up the interests of geologists, archeologists, historians, tourists and nature lovers since ages.

    The monumental rock is 28 km away from town. It rises majestically from the banks of River Kalindi and merges into the River Kali. While this is closely located to the temple town of Ulavi, as numerous people who visit that place also visit this place in Dandeli.

    Syntheri Rocks is a remarkable masterpiece of nature and truly worth a visit!

  • 12Explore Kavala Caves

    Kavala Caves is a stand-alone testimony to the idiosyncrasies of nature and belong to the extraordinary type of destinations one must visit during one’s lifetime. Situated 25 km from the base camp at Dandeli, Kavala Caves are limestone caves that came about due to a volcanic activity dating back to ages.

    A strong smell of bats enters your nose effectively. The cave openings in certain areas are very small, requiring the need to crawl through. A huge stalagmite is worshipped as Shivalinga here. Also known as Limestone Caves, or Sidda, Kavala Caves which have been in existence since prehistoric times, including this place in your Dandeli tour package will make your visit exciting. You need to climb down 375 steps to reach the entrance where there is a temple.  You have to crawl down 40 feet through the winding, narrow tunnels to catch a glimpse of the Shivalinga formed naturally.

  • 13River Crossing

    River Crossing is one of the daring activities and one of the best things to do in Dandeli. It is an oasis for those who like to soak in beautiful environments. Tourists have to cross the river using a safety bind that is attached to the rope which is tied to both the sides of a river & the water flows below. It is better to do this activity by listening to the advice of an experienced guide.

    It is a challenging activity because there will be a lot of stress and need to have a good balance. It is a fascinating activity where you are crossing the river to reach the other end of the wild kali.   • 14Visit Supa Dam

    Supa Dam is the second largest dam in the State. It is 101 meters high and 332 meters long. A concrete gravity dam is built across the Kali River in Joida Taluk of Uttara Kannada District. This dam is the second biggest dam in the state of Karnataka and is one of the major thermal power generating units that have been built across Kali River.

    The name is derived from Suparulu, God of forests. It is a belief that the blessings of the Jungle God are still in the area and this area is blessed by the river Kali which is always nourishing it with water. This is a very good picnic spot. The tourists can enjoy various activities like boating and water scooting.

  • 15Visit Kulgi Nature Camp

    Kulgi Nature Camp is 12 km away from Dandeli city. This nature camp is run by Forest Department of Dandeli and is a good spot for holidays with family and friends. The camp comes in the area of Dandeli wildlife sanctuary and is surrounded by dense forest environment. The camp consists of normal tents, dormitory, and wooden cottages. The food provided in camp is tasty and which is served in golghar.

    There are some good sightseeing spots such as Syntheri rock which is monolithic granite structure having a height of 300 feet, and located in the dense Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary. You can see hollow places on the rock which are the effects of erosion. Kavala cave which is a limestone cave formed by volcanic activity ages back and are situated deep within the forest.
