Maa Bamleshwari Devi, Dongargarh

Maa Bamleshwari Devi Temple is situated at Dongargarh. Located in the Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district, the temple lies at a hilltop of 1600 feet. Predominantly known as the Badi Bambleshwari temple, it is one of the most frequented temples in Chhattisgarh. The main temple has another temple situated at ground level that is known as the Chhotti Bambleshwari. 

Chhotti Bambleshwari lies at approximately 1.5 km from the main complex of the Maa Bamleshwari Devi Temple. Both these shrines are visited by lacs of people in Chhattisgarh who visit the place in huge numbers during Ram Navami and Dussehra. During the Navaratris, Jyoti Kalash is lighted.

Mahamaya Temple, Bilaspur

Mahamaya Temple has been in existence since 12th century. Dedicated to dual Goddess Saraswati and Lakshmi, the temple sports Nagara style of architecture. Nestled along the Bilaspur Ambikapur state highway, the temple is located in Ratanpur and is one of the 52 Shakti Peethas spread across the country.

Danteshwari Temple, Dantewada

Danteshwari Temple represents one of the 52 Shakti shrines from around the country. Dedicated to Goddess Danteshwari, the temple was constructed by Chalukyas of the South in the mid 14th century. Situated about 80 km from Jagdalpur tehsil, the temple is found in the Dantewada town. The temple gets its name Dantewada from the then presiding deity during the times of Kakatiya rulers. It is believed that she was the family goddess of Bastar state. There is also a mythological story associated with this temple. 

It is believed that the temple was created on a spot where the tooth of the Goddess Sati fell during the Satya Yuga when these Shakti shrines were being built. During the festival of Dusshera, thousands of tribal people from nearby jungles and villages visit the temple to pay respect to the Goddess. During the Navaratris, Jyoti Kalash is lighted here.

Chandrahasini Devi Temple, Janjgir

Another significantly prominent temple in Chhattisgarh is the Chandrahasini Devi Temple. Dedicated to the Goddess Devi Maa Chandrahasini, the temple is located on the banks of River Mahanadi. Situated in the Janjgir district of the state of Chhattisgarh, the Chandrahasini Devi Temple is a prominent tourist attraction for the tourists exploring the state or the places nearby Raigarh.

 Besides the daily rituals being conducted here, the temple is particularly known for the pujas that are conducted here during the days of Navratri. In the 9 days of Navratri, the tourists visiting the place is maximum.

Banjari Mata Mandir, Raigarh

The Banjari Mata Mandir happens to be one of the most popular temples of the Rajgarh city. It is a sacred and holy temple that is dedicated to Goddess Banjari Mata. Tourists can find this temple on the route that leads from Raigarh to Ambikapur via the state highway.

Rajgarh as a city is phenomenally popular for its kosa silk, Kathak dance, Tendu patta, bell metal casting, classical music and sponge iron plants. It is also one of the principal rice producing districts in the state of Chhattisgarh.

Jatmai Ghatarani, Raipur

Jatmai Ghatarani Temple is situated about 85 km from Raipur in the Chhattisgarh’s South East Highlands. Ghatarani and Jatmai are 2 distinct places with a waterfall that lies just adjacent to this temple. This temple in Chhattisgarh is nothing less than a heaven. The waterfall here is one of the most frequented tourist attraction. 

The temple is open all round the year however, if you wish to enjoy the beauty of the waterfall too, the best time to make a visit is immediately after the rains i.e. from the months of September to December. This is the time span when these waterfalls will have ample water and forests look green and dense. It is best to avoid making a visit during the monsoon.

Shivani Maa Temple, Kanker

Shivani Maa temple is also known as the Shivani temple. It is one of the oldest temples in Chhattisgarh and is dedicated to dual Goddess Durga and Kali. The vertically half section is dedicated to Goddess Kali whereas the remainder half of it is dedicated to Goddess Durga. People here believe that the Goddess itself is a combination of personalities of these two revered Goddesses.

There are only 2 such structures in the whole world. One of it is this in Kanker and the other one is situated in Kolkata. Kanker lies in the south end of Chhattisgarh and there are 5 rivers passing through the district namely Doodh, Mahanadi, Sindur, Hatkul and Turu.

Patala Bhairavi Temple, Rajnandgaon

Patal Bhairavi Temple also known as the Barfani Ashram. It is a beautiful temple that is situated at the G E Raod in Rajnandgaon. You can spot a huge Shiva linga at the top of the temple. There is also a massive Nandi statue in front of the Shiva linga. The Patal Bhairavi temple is spread across three levels. 

The upper level is of Lord Shiva, the level beneath is the Tripura Sundari or Navadurga shrine and the bottom level is the Pathal bhairavi shrine.

Amarkantak Temple

Amarkantak Temple is nestled in the Maikal Mountains at a height of 3,500 feet. This shrine is a prominent pilgrim spot for Hindus from around the country. It is a veritable temple that is located amongst the dense hills and forests of Chhattisgarh. This holy place is also the source of one of the revered rivers of the Central India i.e. the holy River Narmada and also Sone River. 

For the locals of Chhattisgarh, River Narmada is much more than just a Mighty river. The waters of the river are believed to be the well spring of prosperity and life in the state.

Bhoramdeo Temple

Another must visit temple in Chhattisgarh is the Bhoramdeo temple. Situated amidst the mountain ranges, the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The complex of the Bhoramdeo temple comprises of four temples.

Of these 4 temples, the earliest one is a brick temple however the principal temple here is the Bhoramdeo temple that is built in stone. This temple is nothing short of an architectural marvel.

Hatkeshwar Temple

Hatkeshwar Temple is a highly valuable shrine of the Hindus. Situated on the banks of the river Kharun, the temple lies approximately 5 km from Raipur. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple was constructed by Najiraj Naik in the year 1402. The inner complex of the temple houses a Shiva linga which is believed to have been self emerged. 

On the other hand, the exterior of the temple is beautifully decorated with figures of 9 planets, regent deities, musicians, scenes from Mahabharata and Ramayana, dancing apsaras, floral motifs and more.

Ganga Maiya Temple, Durg

Situated about 60 kms from Bhilai in Jhalmala, the Ganga Maiya Temple is a holy place situated in the state of Chhattisgarh. The temple is immensely crowded during the festival of Navratri that is celebrated twice a year. During this time, thousands of people visit the temple from across the country.

Locals here believe that the idol that is worshipped here in this Ganga Maiya Temple was founded by a local fisherman. The temple is visited by both tourists and locals.
