Situated at a height of nearly 155 m above sea level, Pasighat is one of the oldest towns of the northwestern state of Arunachal Pradesh. Located near the banks of River Siang, the town was founded by the British in 1911 AD. Pasighat has always been home to people belonging to the Pasi and Minyong communities.
Pasighat attracts numerous tourists not only because of its scenic beauty but also because of its adventurous and sporting activities. Apart from river rafting and boating, visitors can also catch a glimpse of various species of animals including the Royal Bengal Tiger in the Daying Ering Wildlife Sanctuary.
Another major tourist attraction of the town includes Pangin which is located at the junction of Rivers Siyom and Siang where the merge of blue and green waters creates a majestic scene. In addition, there is the Komsing village and Kekar Monying mountain cliff both of which are renowned for their historical significance. However, the most prominent tourist attraction of Pasighat is definitely the majestic River Siang with its hanging bridges, broken wooden pavements and a series of beautiful cane rings and swinging strings.
Being a well known tourist destination, Pasighat is well connected by buses, trains and flights. The nearest railway station is Murkongselek while the nearest airport is located in Dibrugarh. Frequent buses and taxis ply from both these destinations.
