Best Trekking Tours in Lahaul - Spiti

If you have always dreamt of conquering a challenging yet beautiful terrain in India, then Spiti valley is the one. It is a dream destination for adventure lovers and avid trekkers. An abode to some of the highest villages, picturesque landscapes and old monasteries, Spiti in Himachal Pradesh is renowned for its snow-capped mountains and treacherous alleys. The best trekking tours in Lahaul Spiti are rigorous and tests one’s stamina along with mental endurance skills. Along with Spiti, the other border areas of Himachal Pradesh such as Lahaul, -Kinnaur are great for trekking.

These valleys boast of rugged mountains on both sides and clear rivers passing along them. While Spiti gets crowded during the peak tourism season, Lahaul remains untouched and isolated reflecting an ancient civilization. As one walks along these places, monasteries, friendly llamas, homestays and camping sites can be witnessed. If one wants to catch the wonderful views of snow-clad peaks of the Himalayas then a trek to Chandra Taal is a great option. During this trek, one can cover places such as Rumsu, Chikka, Balu ka Ghera, Shia Ghoru, Chatru, and Manali. While experienced trekkers can travel on their own, others can rely on trekking operators. Most of the trekking tours come with facilities such as food, accommodation in tents and expert guides, thus putting all the worries of trekkers to rest. For ladies, there are curated all-women trekking tours offered by vendors.

The best time to visit Spiti and neighboring valleys is during the summer season that runs from May to October. Monsoon season ( July – September) is best to be avoided as there may be accidents such as landslides owing to frequent downpours and unpredictable weather. One should stay away visiting in winter as the temperature drops down very low posing a risk to trekkers. Moreover, the roads are closed down connected to the Spiti valley during this time.

If ready for an adventure in the challenging landscape and undulating terrains, trekking in Lahaul Spiti will never bore you with its arduous flow. This destination is an exception certainly which would not surprise one with much of tall trees and meadows, as expected from many treks, but shows a side of stiffness, snow, rocky boulders, and unexpected charm. This charm comes with lovely ancient monasteries, surreal view and an altitude worth to mark for.

With different moods and night stay options, Spiti valley trek comes up with multiple alternatives. Pin Parvati trek lets one cross Parvati river, multiple campsites, picturesque views and takes them to a height of 5319 meters above sea level. And when it comes to trekking to Chandratal lake, life would be full of serenity and delightful time. Cross through Hampta village and settle a night at the lakeside camp. You can imagine the flabbergasting beauty all by yourself, even right now. Something like this but still in another manner, lead the trails of Mount Kanamo, and by the end of the expedition, all you would want to say is wow!

Trekking in Spiti has something that pulls the adventure junkies on its own. Arguably, the thrill comes on its own and energy boosts up the inner self, by the sight of the trail alone. Moreover, the exciting offers and prices for trekking in Lahaul Spiti are so much wonderful that your eyes and trekking boots run all over by itself.

Camp on various locations, that include besides the lake or the snowy peaks, at the cliff or within the valley, the experience is no less than perfect. Sip morning tea and enjoy the dinner with a bonfire so as to calm the bone-chilling nerves here. Capture some of these moments in your eyes and camera and share these moments of joy with fellow travelers. Moreover, a zone with less mobile connectivity is perfect to spend some time in peace and solace.

Reach Spiti with a full swing and hop to Kaza, which is also famous as the base camp for most of the treks. Not that easy to reach, book a cab or drive by yourself to be here. And we can promise just one thing, no matter what, the thrill of adventure will keep your spirit alive all through the tour.

Some of the treks allow passing through green meadows whereas some do not have even a single green patch, few of them depict monasteries even from far away whereas few would land you in knee deep snow.

  • Q. What should I carry while trekking?

Call the area a little barren with small villages and low connectivity, you might need to carry a good amount of essentials apart from woolens and layered clothing to save selves from cool weather up on the peaks.

Do not forget to carry trekking boots, high-quality water bottle, an extra pair of socks, snacks, energy drinks, chocolates, and full-sleeve clothing. An extra day pack in your bag pack is also required so as to fill it up during short expeditions while staying in the tents.

  • Q. What is the best time to do trekking in Lahaul Spiti?

Quite an important information to note, the best time for Spiti valley trek counts summer season in. From the month of April to October, one can trek in the hidden treasures quite smoothly. It is so as the maximum temperature strikes around 23 degrees whereas minimum hangs in around 3 degrees.

Moreover, as winters are about to approach in October, some areas experience snowfalls as well, allowing the peaks to get covered with white-clad. During extreme winters of January, most areas become inaccessible even at the base camp, so no question arises to hike to the top.

  • Q. Which are the famous places to visit in Lahaul Spiti?

If you are striking Spiti only for trekking expedition, you may need to change your mind once again and visit famous places like Tabo monastery and Lhalung monastery in Spiti valley.

When concerned about trekking costs, it all depends upon the package you wish to select or the peak you wish to hike to. It is so as the number of days spent on the trek and stay, along with camping, food cost and shopping vary.

And if Pin Parvati is taken into account, the days required are around 10, and cost hikes up accordingly to around Rs.20,000. We would say, that totally depends on whether you are taking a wholesome package or not. If a package is taken, food will be served at the campsites, whereas if you have planned to pitch in your tent all by yourself, do not forget to carry your own food.

Yet if you are trekking with or without a guide, carry snack bars, chocolates, energy drinks, and water bottles, for sure. You never know how much energy your stomach will require after reaching the top.

  • Q. How to reach Lahaul Spiti?

Talk about any airport or railway station directly, it’s a No! Connected with Shimla and Kullu, choose to travel through roadways, either by your own bike or car or even decide to hire a cab.

As you begin from Shimla, pass through Kinnaur and with some twists and turns, Spiti is right in front of you. Though the distance between the two is around 420 km, yet the time consumption would be higher than expected due to different roads.
