Trip Starting From: Manali

Trip Location: Lahaul - Spiti

About the Activity:

  • Spiti valley otherwise called the "Center Land" is a Trans-Himalayan territory circumscribing with Tibet at an normal height of 4000 meters. 
  • Once you reach Manali by noon hop into Innova/ Scorpio/ Xylo to embark on this sightseeing tour on  August 13th 2016. 
  • This trip takes you through the most elevated motor-able towns and passes with beautiful lakes and 1000 years old society.
  • You shall drive through the Trans Himalayan deserts of Spiti valley ending your trip in Manali on 20th August  2016.
  • This trip has been arranged in a way that you explore Spiti and its neighborhood at your pace. 
  • Experience the 7 day trip like never before which covers the east most parts of Himachal like Sangla and Kalpa in deserts of Spiti valley.

Itinerary

  • Day 1 -

    Manali

    Reach Manali in the morning and check in to the hotel. This day will be open and you are free to do whatever you want but most important thing is to relax and acclimatize and not overexert.

    You can visit Hidimba or Manu temple or Vashisht to have a bath in hot spring,or just explore some good café with continental food in Old Manali.

    The team shall help you decide and guide you to the same.

    In case you have missed packing something then this is the time when you should go shopping as Spiti valley doesn’t have such luxuries.

    Get briefed in the afternoon when everyone has arrived.

    Call it an early night to rest well for the journey ahead, as we leave early next morning and this also helps in acclimatizing.

  • Day 2 -

    Manali to Kaza

    Head to Spiti valley which will take around 10 hours (220 kms), if everything goes as planned.

    Leave early in the morning as you have a long way to go and ascend the mighty Rohtang Pass to begin with.

    Spend some time at the pass and then head towards Gramphoo for breakfast.

    From Gramphoo you shall start noticing change in terrain where you will see less trees and more of steep mountain peaks and beginning of barren landscape.

    From here head towards Chatru and face some of the biggest waterfalls crossing the road which can be a nightmare for any non-experienced driver.

    The terrain will take drastic change from Chatru and all you will see is rocks all over with huge streams crossing the road and converging in the ruthless Chandra river.

    Have a lunch break at Batal where you'll meet the owners of Chandra Dhaba who have been a helping people stuck in bad weather.

    From here head to Kunzum Pass and pay your regards to the Kunzum Goddess and enter Spiti valley.

    The jumpy ride with non-existent road which started from Gramphoo will end in Lohsar.

    From Lohsar head to Kaza after a small break. It will take another 2 hours of beautiful journey.

    Reach Kaza, check-in and enjoy a cup of tea. We shall have a small briefing session at dinner table.

    This tiring day will end with a gaze at the gorgeous sky of a million stars and a prominent milky way.

  • Day 3 -

    Kaza to Key to Kibber to Kaza

    Start the day with a delicious the breakfast and head out to spend our afternoon next to the river where we shall serve you lunch.

    Just spend time relaxing and soaking in the sun. After lunch, you shall head to Kye monastery, the centre of learning in Spiti valley. The setting of the monastery is on a small hill from where you get a complete view of the valley. Then have a cup of tea and spend some time at the roof of the monastery from where you can click pictures and videos.

    From here head to Khibber village, which use to be the highest motorable village in the world before Komic took that place.

    High mountains around Khibber are also home to the rarest Snow Leopard and Siberian Ibex.

    Then head back to Kaza from here.

  • Day 4 -

    Kaza to Dhankar and Tabo and back to Kaza

    After a relaxed breakfast head to Tabo Monastery in the morning via a short visit to Dhankar Monastery and Lake.

    Dhankar village use to be the seat of the Spitian King in the ancient times and the sect of the monastery changed to the sect that the king followed.

    Dhankar monastery, claimed to be 1000 years old, is on the cliff of a mountain over-looking the confluence of Pin and Spiti river.

    Then hike to Dhankar lake which is a steep walk of 45 minutes. The climb is optional.

    Spend some time at the lake and head back. then move towards Tabo monastery, also known as the “Ajantas of the Himalayas”, which is more than 1000 years old.

    Marvel the paintings and murals on the walls of the main sanctum makes it a master piece and worth visiting.

    Then head back to Kaza from here and end the day.

  • Day 5 -

    Kaza to Langza, Hikkim and Komic

    Head out to Langza after breakfast. Langza is the 2nd highest motorable village after Komic and is home to Fossil search in the country.

    If you are lucky then you shall surely find some beautiful fossils while you take a stroll here.

    To make it a little more interesting at this altitude, the interested ones can hike from Langza to Komic via a small stop at Hikkim.

    In order not to forget our loved ones, visit the world’s highest post office in Hikkim and post a few post cards to your loved ones.

    Head to your last point for the day, Komic and enjoy the spectacular view of snow capped peaks around over a cup of tea and chat with the monks.

    The monastery in Komic is functional in winters when temperatures dip down to -30 degrees and roads get blocked

    Then head back to Langza for a home stay with a local family. The life in Spiti might be harsh but each and every aspect of it has a cozy side and you will feel that while sharing space with a local family.

  • Day 6 -

    Langza to Chandrataal

    After Breakfast with the local family, head towards Chandrataal Lake. This is another location where you will find it hard to stop clicking photographs.

    Marvel at the lake changing its appearance almost with every passing hour, each look as stunning as the other.

    Tonight camp in proper adventure style; excellent dome tents set up to protect you from the cold and biting night winds.

  • Day 7 -

    Chandratal to Manali

    Leave early this morning to Manali after an early breakfast. You shall take a small break at Batal and say goodbye to owners of Chandra Dhaba over a cup of tea.

    We will try to reach Rohtang pass by early afternoon and spend some time at the pass.

    Head to Manali and relax. A small get together will be arranged in the evening over dinner.

    Stay in Manali for the night.

  • Day 8 -

    Depart from Manali

    Trip ends this afternoon as you head back to take your bus to Delhi or respective places and take some of memories back of a isolated civilization and trans Himalayan terrain.
