  • Q. Where is Lonavala located? How can I reach there?

    Lonavala is a town and a hill station in Pune. Daily trains are available from Pune and Mumbai. It takes approximately 1 hour to reach from Pune and 40 minutes from Mumbai. There are direct buses from Pune to Lonavala and Mumbai to Lonavala.


    Neeta Travels buses are a good option. The drive from both  Pune and Mumbai to Lonavala   will take 1 hour 20 min. The places covered between Pune and Lonavala are:


    Pune - 43 km -> Kanhe - 4 km -> Kamshet - 18 km -> Lonavala.  The places covered between Mumbai and Lonavala are Mumbai - 12 km -> Mankhurd - 76 km -> Lonavala.

    (c)  Camping in Badlapur is an enjoyable experience with sounds of chirping birds and the music of the flowing river. It is also home to some rare species of birds and butterflies. This is an ideal spot for a picnic beside the Ulhas River.


    (d) Camping at Thoran village near Kamshet, Pune is an untamed, less disturbed portion of peaceful greenery and nourishing natural spectacles. The village is located 17 km from Kamshet and 32 km from Lonavala.

    The major packages for camping include accommodation in tents with mattresses and blankets, two meals and a barbeque, boating and bonfires wherever possible.

    Basic camps provided will have bare necessities of accommodation, toilets and campfires to be able to stay for one/ two nights. There will not be any electricity in these camps.

  • Q. What kind of sleeping bags will be there?

    Primarily, campsites provide mattresses in lieu of sleeping bags as they are more hygienic.


    Majority campsites provide tents with lighting and mattresses for a comfortable night stay.

  • Q. Can we do trekking in Lonavala also? Which treks are good?

    Yes, trekking is very much undertaken in Lonavala. The good treks are :-

    (a)Tikona Fort is a hill fort located near Kamshet [Maval region] in Maharashtra. Height from sea level is 3500 feet. Its twin fort is called Tung .The difficulty level is Easy. Takes 1 1/2 hours to reach to the top of the fort. Some parts are almost vertical as the fort is triangular in shape.


    (b) Rajmachi is one of the most beautiful forts in Lonavala. During monsoons, the road that goes to the base village is in a very bad condition and hence winter is the ideal time to visit. Rajmachi. It is highly recommended for small groups.

  • Q. How to deal with any insects, animals or bad weather we might face?

    The best way to deal with insects, animals and bad weather is to be prepared and well equipped and clothed. It is important to wear the correct clothing to prevent insect bites and weather related problems.


    Carry a mosquito repellent, rain coat and wind sheeter as a precautionary measure.  It is equally important to read and understand procedures during animal encounters from internet/ books / briefings prior to camping trips.

  • Q. What if it rains while we are camping?

    The camps provide water proof tents and it is important to carry plastic bags for electronic devices protection.


    Ensure that adequate protection from lightning is undertaken and avoid high places and rocky areas during the rains.

  • Q. What sort of food will be there during camping? Will there be barbeque as well?

    The food will be cooked meals containing veg and non veg items which will be cooked on the campsite fresh by the cook.


    A barbeque will be arranged in the night in the camp for dinner which can be made by the guests themselves with help from the staff.

  • Q. What sort of clothes are preferable to be worn?

    The material worn against the skin in cold weather can double as pajamas or for daily wear. Synthetic material like polypropylene can wick moisture away from the skin, keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter.


    Having a designated pair of camp pants is worthwhile, especially if you are cooking, cutting wood or tending the fire. Choose a thick, durable pair of shorts or pants, and put them on as soon as you settle into the camp. Well-ventilated shirts and shorts allow air to flow through them, providing a cooling effect.

  • Q. What all activities will we do during camping?

    The activities include swimming in a lake, fishing, barbeque, bonfire, trekking and star gazing .Some camps have additional facilities like grappling and adventure sports.

  • Q. Can we smoke/drink while camping?

    Yes, drinking is allowed in some camps, but majority do not allow drinking. During monsoons, some trails become slippery so it is advised to refrain from drinking alcohol.


    Smoking is permitted only at specific zones. Special attention needs to be paid to disposal of cigarette butts to avoid littering and fire risks.

  • Q. What sort of toilet facility will be there?

    Majority camps provide still toilet facilities in designated camps.

    Other than adventurous activities like  trekking, water sports, para gliding and rock climbing, Lonavala has a couple of interesting places for sightseeing. A beautiful and peaceful Narayani Dham temple with beautiful fountains is a place to visit.


    The view from Lion’s Point with floating clouds and green valleys is a feast for the eyes. Karla Caves and Bhaja Caves are two Buddhist caves carved into the rocky mountain site and has unique Buddhist depictions.


    Wet and Joy water park is an amusement park nestled in the Lonavala hills. It has interesting slides and rides for children.
