Guwahati Packages

Reviewed by Thrillophilia Guwahati Operations Team

Guwahati tour packages start at INR 9,000 for a three-day trip and go up to INR 50,000 for longer trips of 8-10 days. These packages include accommodations, transfers, select meals and activities, and guided sightseeing with on-trip personnel verified for their expertise.

As one of the most accessible entry points to Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh, a Guwahati trip plan works well as a short city break. You can enjoy a sunset cruise after spending a morning at the Pobitra Wildlife Sanctuary or simply explore a Meghalaya extension after your Guwahati city break. The city brings together temples, river cruises, local food, shopping, and cultural experiences with a well-paced itinerary. With extensions, travellers can easily enjoy longer trips across Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.

Supported by a strong network of local experts and smart planning tools, Thrillophilia’s offers more than 37 packages created for different types of travellers. With a 4.6 rating from over 9,000 verified travellers, all Guwahati tour packages include 24/7 on-trip support to ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience.

How to Reach Guwahati from India

The easiest way to travel to Guwahati is via direct flights, primarily available on a regular basis from major Indian cities. Kolkata takes less than 1.5 hours and is the fastest direct route to Guwahati, while cities like Mumbai take an average of 3.5 hours to reach.

Direct Flights to Guwahati (Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport – GAU)

  • Departure Cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Bagdogra, Patna, and Imphal
  • Flight Fare: INR 5,000-10,000 depending on departure city and time of booking
  • Duration: Most routes range between 1.5 and 3.5 hours depending on the departure city
  • Operating Airlines: IndiGo, Air India Express, SpiceJet, Akasa Air
  • Best For: Metro city travellers, short breaks, travellers using Guwahati as a transit city

Railway Routes to Guwahati

  • Kolkata provides the most frequent direct railway routes to Guwahati, making Guwahati trips from Kolkata one of the most easily accessible routes. Regularly operational trains include Saraighat Express, Garib Rath, and Vande Bharat, taking 14-20 hours depending on the train.
  • Other major Indian cities like Mumbai, Chennai, and Bangalore also have direct connectivity to Guwahati via train, although at a frequency lower than that of Kolkata. The most popular trains include Dibrugarh Rajdhani and Vivek Express. They usually take up to 50 hours, generally routing through New Jalpaiguri.

Best Time to Visit Guwahati

While the monsoon season limits wildlife exploration, Guwahati has otherwise year-round suitable weather for city trips and additional extensions. Each season offers something unique that adds to the experience of every kind of traveller.

Here’s a guide to help you figure out the best time to base your Guwahati trip plan on.

October-March

This is the overall peak season to book a Guwahati package. With the temperature ranging from 10°C to 28°C, the skies are clear and the weather dry and stable, perfect for outdoor sightseeing. All ferries, roads, and airport logistics are fully operational.

April-June

This season is more humid with temperatures of 25°C to 35°C. With occasional thunderstorms, the crowds are lower, perfect for temple visits or short city stays. Depending on water conditions, expect ferry delays or occasional cancellations. Due to the school summer holidays window, this season receives the most Guwahati family tour package bookings, as per Thrillophilia's internal booking data.

July-September

The peak monsoon window of Guwahati, with a temperature of 24°C to 32°C, the frequent rains and high humidity lead to very few traveller visits. The rain paves the way for rich, green landscapes, perfect for photography. However, waterlogging and ferry cancellations are a common occurrence in this season, resulting in frequent internal travel delays. Make sure your itinerary is planned with enough buffer time so as not to disturb the travel flow. Avoid wildlife-focused extensions in this window.

Top Destinations to Cover in a Guwahati Tour Package

Although a Guwahati trip plan usually consists of an extension, like in Meghalaya Guwahati tour packages, Guwahati itself has multiple sites worth exploring. These are the best places to visit in Guwahati:

  • Kamakhya Temple: One of the most important Shakti Peethas in India, Kamakhya sits atop Nilachal Hill and draws both pilgrims and travellers throughout the year. It can get very crowded, especially in the mornings, so starting early makes a big difference.
  • Brahmaputra Riverfront: The riverfront is best experienced in the evening when the weather cools down. Whether you choose a cruise or simply walk along the banks, this is where Guwahati feels the most relaxed.
  • Assam State Museum: A good starting point for understanding the region, especially if it’s your first time in Assam. The exhibits are straightforward and help provide context before exploring other cultural sites.
  • Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary: About an hour from the city, Pobitora is known for its high density of one-horned rhinos. It’s best planned as a dedicated day trip rather than trying to combine it with other activities.
  • Fancy Bazaar: This is where you get a feel of how the locals live in Guwahati. Busy, slightly chaotic, but full of character. It’s best explored in the evening when the markets are lively, and the street food scene is at its peak.

Best Experiences to Include in a Guwahati Tour Package

A Guwahati tour feels most rewarding when you balance temples, river views, culture, and a bit of nature without rushing. Here are the best things to do on a Guwahati trip:

  • River and City Experiences: A cruise or ferry ride is best enjoyed at sunset and in evening windows. But if you want a more private and calmer experience, go for early morning explorations, a common planning detail found in most Guwahati honeymoon tour packages. Cruises are usually more expensive and comfortable, while ferries prioritise authenticity and accessibility over comfort.

Highlights: Brahmaputra River cruise, Umananda ferry crossing (budget alternative to cruise), Riverfront walking / sunset pacing

  • Spiritual and Heritage Experiences: For temple visits, make sure to get an early start since Kamakhya tends to get very crowded. Don’t stack temples as half-day plans, as they end up being rushed and unsatisfying. Split them across 2 days instead. If you want a quieter experience, go to the North Guwahati temples for fewer crowds.

Highlights: Kamakhya Temple, Umananda Temple, Navagraha Temple, Ugratara Temple

  • Cultural Experiences: The best time to experience Guwahati culturally is at midday, with rain and heat buffers pre-planned into the itinerary. Since these are non-weather-dependent activities, travellers on a Guwahati group trip can easily cover these as half-day plans. If you want a more academic experience, prioritise the museum visit first, followed by Kalakshetra. For a more experiential approach, reverse the order.

Highlights: Assam State Museum, Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati Planetarium

  • Wildlife experiences: Depending on your time, you can cover these as half-days or full-day add-ons. If you’re short on time, visit Assam State Zoo and Chandubi for relaxed, slow-paced explorations. Pobitora, with the highest rhino density, requires a full 1-day trip, so make sure you don’t stack it with other time-consuming activities.

Highlights: Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, Assam State Zoo, Dipor Beel, Chandubi Lake

  • Local Life and Market Experiences: Shopping and local life explorations are best done in the evening, after your day's activities are over. Fancy Bazaar is the most commercial part of the city, perfect if you want to observe the daily lives of the locals on a leisurely evening walk.

Highlights: Fancy Bazaar exploration, Assamese food trail

This is our second trip with Thrillophilia and our experience was as good as the 1st one to Rajasthan. This was a 7N8D trip to Assam and Meghalaya. As we went there in the last week of April we saw all the waterfalls in their full splendor. We also saw Emerald green river water. Clear water was visible at KrangShuri falls. We loved the trek to the Famed Single and Double Decker living root bridges. We trust Thrillophilia because of their excellent choice of comfortable hotels. Special mention about our driver, Rajkumar, after knowing that we are vegetarians he took us to some awesome restaurants through the journey. Also suggested an ama... Read More

Enjoyed the natural beauty of Arunachal Pradesh and soaked in the peaceful monastic vibes. We had a fun group and the driver was very nice and helpful too. Facilities were basic, but decent for the remote region. Felt that a guide to explain the various monasteries would make the trip even more enriching. But overall, completely satisfied and content with my experience. Fourth trip with Thrilliophilia after Sikkim, Spiti and Bhutan. More to come!

Booked: Best of Meghalaya | Group Tour Package
Travelled From: Delhi
Our Meghalaya group trip became memorable mainly because of the people and the trip captain. Bonfire nights, random dance sessions and those long scenic drives made the experience special. Northeast is honestly beautiful.

Guwahati Tour faqs

Why is Guwahati so famous?

Guwahati stands out because it brings together multiple travel experiences within a single city, from temples and riverfronts to cultural centres and nearby wildlife. It also serves as a key entry point to Northeast India, with strong connectivity by air and rail. This combination of accessibility and variety makes it both a destination and a gateway.

What are the best places to visit on a Guwahati trip?

Guwahati offers a well-balanced mix of spiritual, cultural, river, and wildlife experiences, making it ideal for a short but diverse trip. Key highlights include Kamakhya Temple, Brahmaputra River cruises, Assam State Museum, and Assam State Zoo. Exploring local areas like Fancy Bazaar also adds an authentic touch to the overall experience.

Is Guwahati safe for travellers?

Guwahati is generally considered safe and traveller-friendly, including for solo visitors. Like any city, it’s advisable to follow basic precautions such as avoiding isolated areas late at night and keeping an eye on personal belongings. Staying in well-connected areas also adds to overall convenience and safety.

What is the best time to travel to Guwahati?

October to March is considered the most comfortable time to visit, with pleasant weather suitable for sightseeing and outdoor activities. The summer months from April to June are warmer and more humid but can be more budget-friendly. Monsoon season from July to September sees heavy rainfall, which may affect travel plans and accessibility to certain areas.

What day trips can I plan from Guwahati?

There are several easy day trips you can plan from Guwahati depending on your schedule. Sualkuchi and Chandubi Lake work well as half-day or relaxed excursions, while Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary typically requires a full day. Shillong is also accessible but is better planned as an overnight trip rather than a rushed day visit.

How much does a 4-day Guwahati trip cost in 2026?

For a 4-day trip, budget travellers can expect to spend around INR 10,500 per person, while mid-range trips range between INR 16,000 and 30,000. Luxury experiences can go upwards of INR 30,000–55,000 or more. These estimates usually include accommodation, local transfers, and basic sightseeing, but final costs vary based on travel style and season.

Are 2 days enough for a Guwahati trip?

Two days are enough if you are planning a short visit focused on the city’s core highlights, like Kamakhya Temple, a river experience, and one or two cultural spots. However, the itinerary will feel tight and require careful planning. For a more relaxed experience that includes nearby attractions, 3–4 days is a very good choice.

What are the best temples to visit in Guwahati?

Kamakhya Temple is the most prominent spiritual site in Guwahati and is a commonly requested inclusion in a Guwahati package. Other temples like Umananda, Navagraha, and Ugratara also offer meaningful experiences with relatively less crowd pressure. Visiting these across different time slots helps avoid rushing and improves the overall experience.

Is Guwahati just a transit city?

Although many travellers pass through Guwahati on their way to Meghalaya or other Northeast destinations, the city itself offers enough to justify a dedicated visit. From the Kamakhya Temple to Brahmaputra River experiences and cultural hubs like Kalakshetra, it has its own identity. Treating it only as a stopover often means missing out on these experiences.

Is vegetarian food available in Guwahati?

Vegetarian food is widely available across Guwahati, especially in central areas like GS Road and popular dining zones. Most restaurants and hotels offer standard vegetarian meals without difficulty. However, if you follow a strict vegan or Jain diet, it’s better to inform your accommodation or restaurant in advance for smoother arrangements.
