    Built in the 10th century, the Kamakhya temple is located 7km from the city of Guwahati. The mighty temple in Nilachal hills is dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya and one of the best things to do in Guwahati without which the tour is incomplete. It welcomes thousands of tourists every day from all around the world.

    The story behind Lord Shiva and Devi Parvati is on the tongue of every devotee here and hence, it is also known as one of the Shaktipeeth. The main festival that hosts plenty of tourists is Ambubachi festival held in the month of June where people celebrate the annual mensuration of Goddess Kamakhya. Built-in elongated chamber line and curvy mandapa at the top, it is a deep faith and amusing ancient Architecture that invites many tourists to this temple.

  • 12Pray at Temples of Hajo

    Spend a day in Hajo to revive up the feeling of ancient Indian Architecture, History and enjoy a blend of multi-religious temples. Lying on banks of Brahmaputra river, Hajo acts as a pilgrimage center for Hindus, Buddhists, and Muslims in the same zone and situated 31 km away from Guwahati. Some famous temples here include Hayagriva Mahadev temple, Kedareshwar temple, Madan Kamdev temple etc. The high stepped entry of Mahadev temple in the zone is itself magnificent on its own.

    Along with the lines, Poa Mecca or a quarter of Mecca, built in the 12th century, is standing erect in the campus for the Muslim faith and is one of the most important places in Guwahati. Hajo is a perfect set up of old carved built ups in the climate of Guwahati below the withered clouds. 

  • 13Wander around Dipor Bil

    Lake is known as Bil in Assamese. Located 13 km in South West direction from Guwahati, the lake is perfect to watch beautiful birds basking in the sun and swinging on the tunes of the waterbody. The Bil is placed naturally by hillsides along and an actual extension of river Brahmaputra inside the plains. 

    Sprouting plant species like Waterlily, aquatic grass, and floating vegetation are visible to the naked eyes while making lake greener on many patches. Soothe your eyes after a short drive at Deepor Beel and refresh your minds in the sun while looking at Pelican, kingfishers. Storks and variety of Ducks. This lake also acts as a breeding ground for many migratory birds around the world. Don't just imagine the beauty but hit the spot!!!

  • 14Get Religious at Basistha Temple

    This splendid Shiv Mandir is situated at the South East corner of Guwahati and was built in 18th century by Ahom king. The catch in this temple is an Ashram which was the home of a sage named Bashistha or Vashistha. This red temple welcomes the devotees with a charm of greenery,  ample birds and species around. 

    Most super exciting part of this temple is its relation to Vedic age to which the sage belonged. It is said that Vasistha muni had created the ashram and died here and his grave can also be seen here. A waterfall at the backstage of the temple adds extra grace to the whole environment. Delve into the ancient age and enjoy the scenery along at the same time.

  • 15Learn Local Culture at Sankardev Kalakshetra

    Like the name, Kalashetra represents art and culture, this place a true copy to that and is named after medieval poet and play writer Shankardev. This cultural center holds local culture of not just Assam but also other Northeastern states. The premises of the building includes a museum, open-air theatre, emporiums, places of worship and of course, eateries. 

    Major attractions here include traditional and ethnic articles of Assamese culture, an Artistic village that teaches about the life of the village of Assam, world-class exhibition space for art and culture and workshops for cinema and visual arts. Since the 90's, local culture has become a matter of importance here with this kalashetra and attracting young students and performers from all over the country.

  • 16Visit Assam State Museum

    Culture and History buff can enjoy the real culture of the state of Assam and satiate themselves here. This museum is located in the heart of Guwahati only. The collection varies from the epigraphic section, Art and craft, Natural art, Arms, Ammunitions, and Sculptures. Amongst them, sculptures are also available in stone, terracotta, wood, and metal. Arms and ammunition section consist of swords and armours from the Medieval period to the Mughal period. 

    The importance of Natural history and rhinos could be experienced here beautifully. The vast range of coins from different eras like the Mughals and Ahom dynasty are well defined and amuses every visitor. The handicrafts have a special role in the museum as various handicrafts and handmade objects of North-east India with reconstructed tribal huts are adding advantage here.
