About the Activity:
A standing example of selfless humility and charity, Anandwan stands for the efforts of one man, Baba Amte. Translating to mean ‘The Forest of Joy’, it is located around 5km from Warora near Chandrapur state in Maharashtra and sprawls over 465 hectares of area. This was started mainly for leprosy patients and to help the lesser endowed sections of the society. The organization at Anandwan was started by Maharogi Seva Samiti. The other sister projects of the organization are Lok Biradari Prakalp and Somnath, which are mainly for patients rehabilitated after leprosy.
Hemalkasa on the other hand in located in Gadchiroli district and belongs to the Madia Ginds, a tribal community. It was here that Baba Amte and His wife, Dr. Mandakini Apte managed the award winning project of Lok Biradari.
