At Mysore market get a sneak peek of a Mysorean’s daily life. Regular shoppers bargaining with local traders, aromas of organic produce, heaps of fresh vegetables and fruits, grocery items, food stalls all embroiled in a singular space makes a captivating scene. The tour stretched over two hours is a good sample of a traditional Indian market.
Around 10am, you’ll begin your guided walk from Town Hall. Take one of the two main entrances to the market to step into a wonderland, which has been around for over 125 years. An infectious energy engulfs you as you walk in. Each area of the campus is earmarked for vegetables, fruits and other delights. Find a generous mix of incense stalls, shops selling household items, and even some handicraft and souvenir stalls. At the end of this casual walk, Mysore would no longer be a stranger!

Visit places that narrate a story. Colonel Bailey Dungeon is where Colonel Bailey passed away in the 18thcentury. It is said that at the time of siege of Srirangapatna, one cannon rolled back, cut the ceiling and fell into the dungeon. It still lies there today. Tour the Fort where Tippu launched his attack against the British. Inside this fort is a mosque and the Ranganathaswamy Temple. On the outside, you have the tomb of Tippu, the Gumbaz. Also visit the Obelisk, where Tipu Sultan died, while trying to prevent a British soldier from pulling out his legendary sword from its scabbard.

From the Mysore Town Hall, visit the Amba Vilas Palace, also known as the Mysore Palace. Built in 14th century, it is the official residence of the Wodeyar dynasty and is also one of the major tourist spots in Mysore. Following this, make it to the Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion. Built in 1905 by Chamaraja Wodeyar, the then Maharaja of Mysore, this historical building now houses the post-graduate departments of Mysore University.
Visit the Lalitha Mahal Palace that was built by Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV during 1921 for the royal stays of the Viceroy of India. The palace has now been converted into a five star property under the flagship of Ashok Group of Hotels. With this, the walking trail will come to an end.
