Parc del Laberint d'Horta Barcelona Overview

Head to Parc del Laberint d’Horta, the oldest garden in all of Barcelona, and amongst the most beautiful parks and gardens in the country. Spend some time amidst an exceptional natural space that boasts of impressive architecture and immense romanticism, and is a great place to spend a day with your near and dear ones.

Dating all the way back to the late 18th century, the Parc del Laberint d’Horta is also the oldest garden in the city of Barcelona. Located just outside the tourist trails of the city, within the Collserola mountain range, this historical garden is also amongst the most famous iconic landmarks of the city. Built in the neoclassical style, the garden gets its name from the maze or labyrinth located within its premises. 

Within the park, on the right side, is a romantic castle that takes its inspiration from a traditional Moorish castle. You can also explore the romantic garden and traditional park here, which the garden has been divided into. The Parc del Laberint d’Horta is also home to a myriad of elements from Greek mythology, and boasts numerous streams, ponds as well as sculptures. 

You can also find two small temples dedicated to Artemis and Danae in the heart of the garden. Additionally, there is a statue of the god of wine, Dionysus in the third terrace of the garden. Furthermore, the garden is home to a variety of listed species of plants and trees, including a linden tree and a Himalayan cedar tree. You can also find a Juniper tree, a camelia plantation, evergreen oaks and sequoias here.

The Maze

The Maze

The park is home to a stunning maze, known as the Labyrinth, which is a major highlight of this attraction. Lined with cypress trees, the maze forms high walls through which you can enjoy a stroll and try to find your way out. At the very centre of the labyrinth, you can find a sculpture of Eros. Located near the maze is the Torre Soberana, which is a 14th century country house located within the gardens, and was further restored and re-decorated in the arabesque style during the 19th century.

Parc del Laberint d’Horta is home to several gardens, including the Romantic Gardens, which house the agapanthus plants, also known as the flowers of love. You can also find many colourful flowers, canals, fountains and sculptures here. Other gardens here include the Boxwood Gardens, which are home to numerous topiary sculptures, and are especially popular amongst children. You can also visit the Domestic Gardens in the park, and see the beautiful camellia flowers and staircases here.

The Grotto of Egeria

The Grotto of Egeria is a hidden gem within the Parc del Laberint d’Horta. This secluded spot is perfect for a romantic picnic or a quiet moment of reflection. The grotto is named after the Roman goddess of fertility, and according to legend, she blessed the waters of the nearby spring. Today, the spring still flows and the grotto is a popular spot for couples to visit.

The Terraces

There are three terraces within the park. These include the First Terrace, which is located right near the entrance of the garden, and is the home of attractions like the Columns Square, the Garden of Mosses, the Small Labyrinth as well as the Labyrinth of Cypresses and the Grotto of the Minotaur. The Second Terrace of Parc del Laberint d’Horta is known for the reliefs of Deucalion and Pyrrha, as well as the Triumph of Venus. You can also find temples built in honour of Artemis and Danae here. The Third and final terrace in the park boasts of a neoclassical pavilion complete with porticoes as well as reliefs. You can also find the grotto of Egeria here.
