PLACA DE SANT JAUME BARCELONA

Head to Plaça de Sant Jaume, a square at the centre of the Old City of Barcelona, and an iconic landmark of the Catalan political power, with a history that dates back to more than 1000 years in time. Spend some time relaxing here, or learning how this place represents the social and political centre of the city of Barcelona, just as it did several hundred centuries ago.

Located in the heart of the city’s Gothic Quarter, Plaça de Sant Jaume also serves as the political and social center of Barcelona. It is home to the Barcelona City Council as well as the Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya, which are two of the most important institutional buildings in all Catalonia. The square is also a popular gathering place for locals and tourists alike. 

On warm days, the square is filled with people sitting on the steps of the City Hall here, enjoying the sunshine and people-watching. This place also serves as a link to other popular destinations and attractions in the city, including the Barcelona Cathedral, the Rambla, El Born as well as the Mercat de la Boqueria, in addition to other places.
