MUSEU FREDERIC MARES

Also known to be one of the most historically significant structures in Spain, the Museu Frederic Mares museum is famous for its marvellous sculptures. You can find here some rare and prestigious collections of sculptures from Spain, dating from the 12th to 19th century. Moreover, the basement of this museum is adorned with sculptures dating back to as old as the 3rd to 4th century. 

Named after the famous sculptor, Frederic Mares, the Museu Frederic Mares is home to some of the most stunning structures, dating back to as old as the 3rd Century. Located just behind the Cathedral, this museum is present in a structure which was previously known to be the Palace of the Inquisition.

The Museu Frederic Mares museum is not only of great historical significance to Spanish history, but is an exceptional architectural marvel. Do not forget to visit the basement section of this museum, to find sculptures dating back to the period between 3rd and 4th century. Some of the highlights among these sculptors include the collection of crucifixes, and the Virgin Mary statues’, belonging to the Romance and Gothic age.

Move further to the first floor of the Museu Frederic Mares to discover and explore the exquisite collection of crafts, art and sculptors from the Baroque and the Renaissance period. View the popularly known Museu Sentinel, filled with objects and artefacts from the bourgeois period in Barcelona. Indulge in seeing and examining the common commodities used during olden times including umbrellas, glasses, canes and so on.

Several other sections to explore here include a room dedicated to the lifestyle of women in Barcelona, a smoking room equipped with pipes, the game room and smaller Lords room.
