About Serangan Island
Turtle Island, another name of Serangan Island in Bali is located near to Denpasar around 10 km distance away and why it got the name related to turtles because it is considered to be one of the important nesting ground for green sea turtles. Since the emergence of turtle conservation, the consumption of turtle meat and the use of the creatures during ceremonies were decreased. Another feature of the island lies in the beautiful Sakenan temple situated on the western edge of the island.
Earlier, the island was accessible only by traditional wooden boats can be easily accessed by 110 meters long bridge now. Though some find it an unlikely attraction, some visitors have pointed out that many features of the island let it stand out from other islands in the archipelago.
Highlights: The population on the island meet their both ends by involving in the fishing industry. The Muslim communities live in harmony with the Hindu communities here. There is a turtle breeding spot where green turtles are laying eggs and they will be hatched under the surveillance of the operator Citra Taman Penyu. The annual ceremonies held at the temple attract many visitors toward the island
Activities: The watersports done on the island are one of the main reasons why tourists love to arrive here. Surfing has its unbreakable clutches on the beach. Other activities like windsurfing, swimming, boating are also done by the tourists arrive here.In 2008, the first Asian Beach Games was held on this beach as it was one of the three venues. The Shark Island conservation project plays an important role in making the island safe for swimming with white tip reef sharks.
How to reach there: You can reach the island easily from Denpasar and it is lying about 15 minutes away from the Kuta and Sanur areas.
