About Dakshineswar Kali Temple

Dakshineswar Kali Temple is one of the most revered Hindu temples in Kolkata, located on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River. Built in 1855 by Rani Rashmoni, the temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali in her form as Bhavatarini. The main shrine is renowned for its distinctive nine-spired (Nava-ratna) architectural style, which reflects traditional Bengali temple design.

The temple complex also includes twelve Shiva temples, a Radha-Krishna temple, and living quarters associated with Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, the renowned spiritual saint and mystic. Thousands of devotees visit the temple daily to offer prayers and participate in rituals. The serene riverside setting enhances its spiritual ambiance, making Dakshineswar Kali Temple not only a significant religious site but also a major cultural and spiritual landmark of Kolkata.
