Huerta de San Vicente Granada Overview

Huerta de San Vicente was the summer residence of the Spanish playwright, poet, and theatre director, Federico Garcia Lorca. On April 6, 1985, the City Council of Granada acquired it and converted it into a museum. It offers insight into the poet’s lifework by showcasing his original objects, furniture, drawings, manuscripts, and paintings.

Huerta de San Vicente is a small museum that recreates the ambiance of Lorca’s home in the early twentieth century. It maintains and preserves the manuscripts, drawings, furnishings, paintings, and other personal belongings of the Lorca family. It has four rooms, a courtyard, a kitchen, and a beautiful park.

The upper level, where the bedrooms and bathroom of Lorca’s parents were once located, has now been converted into an exhibit hall, and it hosts temporary exhibitions and a permanent display of drawings, manuscripts, and original photos. Federico García Lorca’s room has been beautifully preserved, and everything from his bed to the poster of the La Barraca theatre group with whom he travelled to Spain remains intact.

The rooms showcase the works of renowned painters like Rafael Alberti, Salvador Dali, Rafael Barradas, Hermenegildo Lanz, Manuel Angeles Ortiz, and Santiago Ontanon. You can stroll around the well-maintained park that is dotted with blooming flowers, orchards, jasmine, and lemon trees. The museum is only accessible by guided tours that are conducted every thirty minutes.
