Plaza Isabel La Católica Overview

A well-liked city square in the center of Granada is called Plaza Isabel La Católica. It is located at the crossroads of Reyes Catolicos Street and Gran Via de Colón. To commemorate the signing of the Capitulation of Santa Fé, the square features a monument to Queen Isabel and Christopher Columbus.

The Plaza Isabel La Católica is located at the crossroads of Granada's two main thoroughfares, the Gran Via de Colon and the Calle Reyes Católicos. There is a figurine of Columbus and Queen Isabel in this little plaza at the corner, and right next to the statue is a lovely water feature.

The Plaza Isabel La Católica can be found in the heart of old Granada, at the crossroads of the Pavaneras and Gran Via streets, at the start of Reyes Catolicos, and directly across from the Santander bank. Back in 1962, when Manuel Sola Rodríguez Bolivar was mayor, he ordered its construction to improve traffic flow through the area.

Queen Isabella of Spain and Christopher Columbus are depicted in bronze in the artist Mariano Benlliure's magnum opus. Isabel, a devout Catholic, is depicted as agreeing to Christopher Columbus's terms for setting sail.

On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America, it was created in Rome in 1892. Columbus Square (also known as La Plaza de Colon) is a common name for this area, even though it goes by a different name officially.
