La Alcaicería Granada Overview

La Alcaicería was the central marketplace in the Moorish city of Granada. It was built in the 14th century and, at its peak, was one of the largest and most prosperous markets in all of Europe. In addition to its myriad of shops, La Alcaicería is also home to some of Granada's most iconic landmarks such as Plaza Nueva, the grandiose Cathedral of Granada, and the stunning Alhambra Palace.

This historic market in Granada, Spain is a shopper's paradise, with an array of stalls selling everything from traditional Spanish souvenirs to handmade crafts and local produce. La Alcaicería dates back to the Moorish era when it was one of the largest and most important markets in the city.

Today, it is still a popular spot for both locals and tourists alike, offering a unique shopping experience. It is one of the few remaining markets in Spain that still retains its traditional Moorish architecture and is home to a wide variety of stalls selling all sorts of items – from souvenirs and handcrafted goods to fresh produce and local delicacies.

Built-in the Moorish style, La Alcaicería is a great example of Islamic architecture. The arches and intricate tile work are truly something to behold. The light plays off the colorful buildings and creates some truly stunning images.
