Meenmutty Waterfalls Overview

One of the delightful of Wayanad tourist places, Meenmutty Waterfalls is a three-tiered waterfall that will take your breath away. A scenic trek through the lush green forest from the Wayanad-Ooty Road leads up to this picturesque natural wonder and it is one of the fun places to visit in Wayanad in 1 day.

There are separate decks that can be accessed in different ways to view the different tiers of this spectacular waterfall. The roaring waters of Meenmutty Falls are situated in the lush forests making it a delight for photographers.

Meenmutty Waterfalls is the second-largest waterfall on your Wayanad trip and a must-see destination known for its breathtaking beauty and magnificence. It is located near the Kalpetta in Wayanad District in Kerala, India. This 984-foot natural wonder has three tiers of cascading water, which creates a mesmerising sight. It offers separate viewing points for each of its three decks, providing a unique experience.

To reach the first tier, you need to walk approximately 500 metres from the main entrance. This tier features a smaller waterfall and a shallow pool perfect for swimming. Trekking about 500 metres leads to the second tier, offering scenic views of the stream and lush vegetation. The third tier is the most challenging and requires walking on slippery rocks. This half-kilometre stretch takes about 10 to 15 minutes and you can see the Banasura Sagar Dam and valleys from there. The lush green tea gardens that encircle the waterfalls make the trek to the falls an unforgettable experience for you.

How To Reach

1. By car/cab: It takes around 1 hour to reach Meenmutty Waterfalls from Wayanad city centre and the distance is approximately 32 kilometres.

2. By bus: You can board the buses from Kalpetta which drop you at the entrance of the waterfall.

Best Time To Visit

1. Best time of the day: Consider visiting early in the morning around 9 am at the opening time of the waterfalls. By doing so, you can skip the crowds and enjoy a more peaceful experience.

2. Best time of the week: Plan your visit on the weekdays as weekends attract large crowds to these waterfalls

3. Best season: The best season to visit Meenmutty Waterfalls is from October to March as the hot summers can ruin your fun. Additionally, the monsoon season can be unsafe due to the heavy inflow of water and slippery rocks.

Other Essential Information

1. The terrain can be slippery and uneven, so it's important to wear comfortable and sturdy shoes with good grip.

2. Bring along essentials like water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a first aid kit for your trip.

3. Check the weather forecast before heading out as heavy rain can make the trail to the waterfall challenging.

4. Follow the posted signs and guidelines provided by local authorities to ensure your safety.

5. Preserve the natural beauty of Meenmutty Waterfalls by carrying the trash with you and avoiding littering.

6. Avoid visiting during the rainy season because the flow of water is high at that time, making it a bit dangerous.

7. The waterfall is closed the majority of the time, therefore it's best to check the schedule with the authorities before going.
