Jammu and Kashmir Packages

Rated 4.6 by over 40,000 verified travellers, Thrillophilia Jammu and Kashmir tour packages start from around INR 17,500 per person. When you plan a Jammu and Kashmir trip, you need to remember that it is one of India’s most topographically diverse Union Territories. Within the same region, you have Dal Lake in the Kashmir Valley (1,580 metres) and the Vaishno Devi Temple (1,560 metres in the Trikuta Mountains). Both are among India’s most visited destinations, but they attract travellers for completely different reasons.
If you are planning the Kashmir Valley circuit, which includes Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg, the trip offers leisure, romance, snow, and adventure. Meanwhile, the Jammu circuit, which includes Katra, Vaishno Devi Yatra, and Patnitop, focuses on pilgrimage and sees more than 8 million yatris every year.
At Thrillophilia, we plan your Jammu and Kashmir itinerary with this distinction in mind. Instead of combining everything into a generic “best of Jammu and Kashmir”, we build each package around a clear regional focus. Our Kashmir Valley itineraries are backed by ground-verified safety data, while Vaishno Devi packages include RFID yatra slip management, helicopter booking coordination, and route guidance.
As of 2026, tourism in Jammu and Kashmir is operating at peak capacity, with high hotel occupancy across the Kashmir Valley and fully operational road connectivity. These figures reflect not just the region’s popularity, but also the confidence travellers have in visiting, which is why numbers remain high. So, plan a Jammu and Kashmir trip for your family, friends, honeymoon, or even a solo adventure with us.
Jammu and Kashmir as a Destination
When you plan a trip to Jammu and Kashmir, you should think of it as two distinct travel circuits. Although they are in the same Union Territory, they are each suited to a different kind of experience. If you look at the Kashmir Valley, which covers Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg, it is perfect for planning a leisure, honeymoon, or adventure trip. In this region, your itinerary will revolve around sightseeing, day trips, and experiences like shikara rides, treks, nature walks, and snow sports.
On the other hand, if your focus is the Jammu region, your route will centre around Jammu, Katra and Vaishno Devi Yatra. Patnitop and Sanasar can act as additional stops that have beautiful meadows, valleys, and forests. This part is ideal if you want a pilgrimage-focused, family-friendly travel plan. Even though both fall under Jammu and Kashmir, you will need to plan them as separate itineraries. This is due not only to distance and travel time, but also to the purpose and duration of the trip. To explore both circuits comfortably, plan at least 10–12 days.

3. Thrillophilia’s ground team conducts monthly safety assessments and sends you the latest report a week before your departure.

Kashmir Valley – Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, and Sonamarg
Srinagar
Srinagar is not just the entry point of your Kashmir tour; it is exactly where the entire trip starts feeling real. Most itineraries begin here because it naturally sets the pace for the whole journey. Mornings by Dal Lake are calm and unhurried, whether you are sitting on a houseboat or taking a quiet shikara ride while the floating market slowly comes alive.
During the day, you can explore places like Mughal Gardens, Nishat Bagh, and Shalimar Bagh, but most travellers enjoy the unplanned small moments more, like walking along Boulevard Road, sipping kahwa, or simply watching life move slowly around the lake.
What to know?
- Houseboat location matters more than the category of boat you choose
- 1.5–2 days is ideal to explore Srinagar
- Best place to start and end your trip
Pahalgam
If Srinagar is where you settle in, Pahalgam is where you slow down completely. The vibe here is quieter, with the Lidder River flowing alongside and beautiful valleys opening up on each side of this picturesque town.
Places like Betaab Valley and Aru Valley are very famous here, but what stands out more is the overall atmosphere. It is less crowded, more spacious, and ideal for long walks. This is where travellers usually feel the least rushed during the entire trip.
What to know?
- Best for relaxation and scenic exploration
- 1–2 nights are recommended for a proper experience
- Aru Valley is usually the least crowded compared to other Pahalgam spots
Gulmarg
Gulmarg feels completely different from Srinagar and Pahalgam. As you drive up, the scenery changes quickly into thick forests, cooler air, and eventually wide open landscapes that stay covered with snow during winter. It is known mainly for the Gondola, but the place has a lot more to offer.
The Gondola ride here runs in two phases. Phase 1 (Kongdori) is where travellers spend most of their time enjoying snow activities like sledging, snow play, and more. Phase 2 (Apharwat Peak) gives you the real dramatic side of Gulmarg, with breathtaking high-altitude views when the weather allows. Gulmarg is one of India’s few proper skiing destinations in winter, while in summer it turns into wide green meadows with open mountain views.
What to know?
- Start early (before 9 am–10 am) to avoid long queues
- Phase 2 depends heavily on weather conditions
- A day trip is ideal, but an overnight stay makes it more relaxing
Sonamarg
Sonamarg feels completely different from the other Kashmir highlights. The landscapes here are wider, and the mountains feel much larger, which is why it is often seen as one of the more untouched places to visit in Kashmir. Sonamarg is less commercialised and mainly made up of large glaciers, snow-covered peaks, and the huge rocky mountains of the Himalayas. The rivers here are comparatively fast-flowing, which adds to their overwhelming natural beauty.
It is usually added to longer itineraries, as reaching Sonamarg depends a lot on road conditions outside the summer months. When accessible, it adds a completely different dimension to your Kashmir trip.
What to know?
- Best for 6–7 day itineraries
- Weather and road access can affect plans
- Ideal for travellers who want something beyond the usual route
Dal Lake: Houseboat Categories, Shikara Timing and Floating Market Guide
Houseboat Categories: Srinagar’s Dal Lake has many categories of government-approved houseboats, and some run by private operators as well. These categories decide the nightly rates of each room on the houseboats.
JKTDC C and D categories cost around INR 800 – INR 1,800 and are great for solo backpackers and budget travellers.
JKTDC B category costs around INR 1,800 – INR 3,200 and are good for budget-conscious couples and groups.
JKTDC A costs around INR 3,000 – INR 5,500 and will suit you if you want a standard yet comfortable experience.
JKTDC Deluxe is the top government-approved category, which costs INR 5,000 – INR 9,000 and is best for families seeking comfort and leisure.
Luxury and heritage houseboats run by private operators fall outside this system and cost INR 8,000 – INR 22,000. Those are great for honeymooning couples and luxury travellers.
These prices are inclusive of shikara rides to the houseboat from the ghat, and some also cover breakfast.
Shikara Timing and Floating Market Guide:
You can ride shikaras on the Dal Lake from 6 am to 8 PM in the summer, and 8 am to 5:30 PM in the winter. The best time to go for the ride is in the early morning, as that is when the iconic floating vegetable market opens to the public. The market runs from 6 am to 7:30 am, so you will need to start early to explore it. It is a 200-year-old tradition, so you get the authentic experience of local farmers selling goods instead of the commercial tourist version. Apart from the morning hours, you can also visit in the evening to watch the sunset and see the Char Chinar Island.
A recent traveller review by Shreya Bhowmick from Kolkata, published on 27 November 2024, after booking the Highlights of Kashmir | FREE Shikara Ride on Dal Lake package, describes the Dal Lake shikara ride as one of the most peaceful moments of the entire Kashmir journey. According to her experience, after visiting destinations such as Aru Valley, Betaab Valley, Chandanwari, Sonamarg’s Thajiwas Glacier, and Gulmarg, the quiet ride across Dal Lake offered a different kind of connection with Kashmir’s natural beauty. She also noted that the combination of comfortable accommodation, supportive local hospitality, and the well-managed travel route made Srinagar especially memorable. Her review further mentions that the calmness of the lake, along with visits to gardens such as Nishat Garden and Badam Wari, added depth to the overall experience, while the local driver, Mr Dar Bilal, was appreciated for safe driving and route guidance throughout the trip.
Gulmarg: Gondola Phase 1 vs Phase 2 Authority and Skiing Season
The Gulmarg Gondola has two phases: Phase 1 runs from Gulmarg to Kongdori, and Phase 2 continues from Kongdori to Apharwat. Both rides take about 10 minutes each and offer panoramic views of Gulmarg. Phase 1 reaches Kongdori at 2,650 metres and stays open year-round, making it suitable for most travellers. Phase 2 goes up to Apharwat Peak at 3,980 metres, making it one of Asia’s highest gondola rides, with views up to Nanga Parbat on clear days. Its operations remain weather-dependent, so October–December and February–April are generally the best months to visit. Tickets are limited, so booking online or reaching the counter by 7 am is advisable. Phase 2 is not recommended for travellers with altitude sensitivity, cardiac conditions, or severe respiratory issues, and carrying a light jacket is essential as temperatures can drop to zero even in October.
The Gulmarg Gondola gives you access to vast powder skiing ranges in the peak skiing season of late December to mid-March. You can get peak snow conditions for skiing from mid-January to mid-February, and late-season powder skiing in March. Apharwat in Phase 2 is great for expert-level skiing, and if you are a beginner, the base area will be best for you.
Jammu Region – Vaishno Devi, Katra, and Patnitop
Vaishno Devi Yatra: RFID Registration, Routes, and Helicopter Options
Everything about the Vaishno Devi Yatra is managed by the Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (VDSB). As per the rules, you must have a valid Yatra slip. You can get it by registering via the official VDSB portal or at counters in Katra.
Katra is where the yatra starts, and there are two trekking routes to reach the shrine. The traditional route goes via Banganga–Charan Paduka–Ardhkuwari and is 14 kilometres one way, where ponies and palanquins are allowed. The new route goes via Tarakote-Himkoti and is around 13 kilometres one way with a gentler slope, but no ponies are allowed. You can also ride a helicopter from Katra to Sanjichhat, which will reduce your trek to the final 2.5 kilometres from Sanjichhat.
In 2026, you also need to carry the RFID card, which is issued for free at counters in Jammu and Katra. The card is for tracking, crowd management, and safety, and you can get it by showing your booking slip or ID. It is valid for one yatra, and you will need to return it after you come down from the shrine.
Katra: The Yatra Base Town, Accommodation Tiers, and Pre-Dawn Start Protocol
Katra is the base town of the Vaishno Devi Yatra, from where the trek routes start for the 14-kilometre journey. You can stay here at different accommodations, which go from budget dharamshalas and hotels to 3-star stays and luxury resorts. Dharamshalas remain popular among yatris, while hotels suit travellers seeking greater comfort. With Thrillophilia’s Vaishno Devi tour packages, you will get to stay in comfortable hotels with rooms based on your preferences. As far as the Yatra is concerned, you should start before dawn at around 3-4 am so you avoid crowds and midday heat.
Patnitop and Sanasar: Jammu’s Leisure Extension
Patnitop and Sanasar are suitable leisure extensions if you want to add a short mountain break to a Jammu itinerary beyond Vaishno Devi and Katra. Patnitop, around 110 kilometres from Jammu, is known for pine forests, valley views, cool weather, and activities such as the ropeway, short walks, and winter snow visits.
About 20 kilometres ahead, Sanasar offers open meadows and a quieter setting for paragliding, ziplining, camping, and nature walks. Together, both destinations work well as a same-day or overnight addition to Jammu-focused travel.

Amarnath Yatra – Permits, Health Certificates, and Route Selection
Baltal Route vs Pahalgam Route: Distance, Difficulty, and Timing
The Amarnath Yatra has two main routes, one that starts from Baltal and one that starts from Pahalgam. The Baltal Route is 14 km long, which makes it shorter than the 48-kilometre-long Pahalgam route. But it is physically demanding and has no camp stays. The Pahalgam route, on the other hand, is the traditional route that can take you 3-5 days and has camp stops.
Helicopter Service to Panjtarni: Cost and Advance Booking Protocol
You can also take a helicopter ride from Baltal and Pahalgam to Panjtarni, which will reduce the trek distance to just 6 kilometres. Since Baltal is closer, the aerial route is faster and also costs less than the route from Pahalgam. It costs around INR 3,250 one way from Baltal and INR 6,500 for a round trip. The Pahalgam to Panjtarni route can cost around INR 4,900 one way and INR 9,800 for a round trip. You will need to book your tickets in advance from the official website of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board after completing your yatra registration. With Thrillophilia’s Amarnath Yatra packages, you won’t need to worry about any of this as we will take care of it all for you.
2026 Permit Registration: Online Quota and Medical Certificate Requirements
Registration for the Amarnath Yatra has opened on 15 April 2026 on the official website of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board. The yatra will begin on 3 July 2026 and end on 28 August 2026. The permits are quota-based, so you will get them for a certain date on a first-come, first-served basis.
There are eligibility rules for the yatra, which say that you need to be 13 to 70 years old. Pregnant women with more than 6 weeks of pregnancy are also not allowed on the yatra. Apart from this, you will need a Compulsory Health Certificate from a government hospital, which shows your blood pressure, cardiovascular fitness, and oxygen saturation.

Kashmir Valley: Snow begins to show up by the second half of the month, and Gulmarg starts turning into a winter wonderland.
Jammu: Cold but clear weather with temperatures between 12°C and 25°C makes it a good off-peak travel period. Vaishno Devi Yatra also sees fewer pilgrims after the festive rush.
Special: Pre-winter beauty
Why Visit: You can catch the first snowfall and ride the Phase 2 Gondola in Gulmarg.
December
Kashmir Valley: The peak snow season begins in full swing, which lasts till February. Temperatures drop to zero by the end of the month.
